well, it's true. If you steal something, no matter what the value, from a person or a place and while doing so you injure someone, it's considered robbery.

what matters is not that u steal something, it matters how u steal it, if u use force if u threaten or batter then that makes it a robbery. im not sure he threatened or hit er to take the phone, sounds more like he threatened or hit her because he was mad.

No matter how the cost, its still a crime. He assaulted and took something from her, thats the definition of robbery. It would be the same if he stole thousands worth. A crime is a crime. It doesn't help that Floyd is in the publics eye. They may be looking to make an example of him.
