Garcia weighed 153 lbs. against Armstrong when they fought for the middleweight title. And Armstrong only weighed 142. It wouldn't have been for the middleweight title if they fought today.

The lineal titles is what counts.

Pacquiao has 4. Again, big mistake - in hindsight - that he by-passed all those weight divisions early in his career. Of course, back then, he probably never dreamed he could ever be within striking distance of GOAT.

          jr. lightweight
          lightweight
          jr. welterweight
          welterweight
          light middleweight (?)

Pacquiao's range is flyweight to jr. middleweight:

          flyweight
          jr. bantamweight
          bantamweight
          jr. featherweight

          lightweight
          jr. welterweight
          welterweight
          light middleweight (?)

In hindsight, Pacquiao made a mistake by-passing several titles that he could have won. He would have had 9 titles by now - even before fighting Margarito.

If Pacquiao were in Armstrong's era, his range would be:

          flyweight
          bantamweight
          featherweight
          lightweight
          welterweight

Arguably, 5 titles for Pacquiao during Armstrong's era.
          armstrong is too small.

featherweights , lightweights , welterweights of armstrong's era was much smaller back then.

armstrong when he was fighting at welterweight was probably the same size as a 126-130 marco antonio barrera.

I think it is very difficult to compare. I think today you can get an alphabet trinket belt over competition that is way weaker than the competition Armstrong faced. (eg David Diaz) But it's also true that same day weigh-ins meant that Armstrong was actually facing significantly lighter competition at each weight class. When they stepped in the ring for the Middleweight crown Garcia was probably at 155 or so. When Pac faces Margarito he will be stepping in the ring with someone probably weighing 165 for a JMW belt at a 151 catchweight. That's a big difference.

Armstrong could win a ton of belts today, but he would probably have to give up over 30 pounds to take a Middleweight belt, even from an alphabet champion. That could be really tough. And I'm not sure Pac could have even won a Bantam weight title back then. It would have been really tough for him to make weight with same day weigh-ins.

Today, Armstrong could probably make super bantam for a while. He likely wouldn't fight above 140 unless introduced to the same weight-gaining possibilities that Pacquiao has used to fight at 147.

Yeah, but the competition was weaker back in those times.
I mean, when you watch Armstrong fights, his opponents look really slow flat footed and unskilled.
Armstrong made them look flat-footed. Barney Ross said that his legs were gone by the 5th round against Armstrong. The relentless pressure and body punching takes its toll.

The way things are today lots of fighters from the past would have been undefeated and multiple champions if they did what alot of modern fighters do.
