Well, if his opponents weren't such *****es they wouldn't be getting knocked down in the first place. Accidents happen, and I hate that fighters get dq'd just because of the heat of the moment.

I was shocked Cortez didn't DQ him (on Saturday). I think the only reason he didn't was because of the Soto debacle.

It was funny because as soon as the fight started and I saw Cortez was the ref, I turned to my friend who doesn't watch boxing that much and I said, "oh man, this is a horrible ref. I bet something controversial will happen." Sure enough

I was watching some of Edwin Valero fights not that long ago and there were at least two KO's of his were he did the same thing - blatantly hit the guys when they were down. Risky stuff.

Gamboa needs to be shown Roy Jones vs Griffin and hopefully that sinks in. Would hate to see him lose off of something ******.

Well, thats a combo and was pretty obvious. I think if a fighter hits an opponent quickly in the heat of the moment with one punch, it shouldn't automatically be ruled a dq'd depending on the circumstances.

Cortez did the right thing though, he deducted points for Gamboas mistake. It definitely wasn't DQ worthy. Gamboa is lucky that his opponent was a Mexican warrior and not some clown who would fake seizures to get out of a fight.

right but let's not forget Cortez DQ'd Soto for a lesser punch. You never know what a ref will do, so, better not do it at all. I mean, in both of these examples there was clearly enough time for Gamboa to realize and understand dude is on the ground. I'm not complaining lol just sayin he should be careful.

Cortez really DQ'd Soto for cherry-picking his opponent.
