hopkins is an ATG, you take what he's done, and at his age and how the cards been stacked against him, yeah, ATG.

he's like a cal ripken of boxing, he's a iron man, he's a true professional, and is the epitome of how a fighter should take care of his body and take control of their own business.

hopkins coming out to sinatra's " my way " damn right he did it his way, and that just adds to the greatness.

you might not like him but you can't deny the fact of what he's accomplished.

and i don't give a hoot what anyone of you say. it is a fact that it is harder to hold it down in one weight class than it is to move up in weight for your whole career.

all those so called smaller fighters that moved up and fought hopkins were all guys that dropped 25-30+lbs to fight in those lower weights, which to me, isnt really where they shouldve been or supposed to be at in regards to weight. they had to move up because they got too big and couldn't drop the weight anymore, their bodies COULD NOT DO IT ANYMoRE, ie trinidad......... trinidad dropped so much weight his body refused to lose weight anymore to a certain point, and kept his body where it could only go, and that is why trinidad didn't want to comeback and fight unless if it was at a certain weight, if i remember it was something like 185 or some junk.

as you get older, it is way harder to keep the same weight than it is to move up, especially when you're dropping 30lbs. all the time to make a weight class.

hopkins is ATG, and also ATG boxing activists..........!

so you mean to tell me trinidad and oscar walked around at 180/190 lbs. to make 147?

and even if they did, once they made the jump to 160 they were garbage...

sorry, but i can't give a fighter who entered boxing as a lightheavy too much credit for scaling down to 160 and beating up on a hopeless division...the significant fights where the opponent was equally sized and talented he still lost (jones, taylor 2X)...

his one good win is still the part-time movie actor tarver at his natural weight 175, and he hasn't fought a natural lightheavy since...nothing but catchweight fights where the opponent was two divisions smaller (winky, pavlik) still lost to calzaghe...that was a must win fight imo...

hopkins atg = hell to the no

yep, trinidad was known for blowing up to 185-190 at times, it's been in articles and interviews before, but it was no big deal because that is what people did. same with oscar, he too dropped 30lbs from his walking around weight to fight at welter and lower. deny it all you want, it's fact!

hopkins, it's a known fact, never walked around anymore than 10lbs of his fighting weight, HIS WHOLE CAREER. you can marginalize his career all you want, but he's accomplished way more than most have done, who have had higher praise and glory than him and he surpassed 98% of all of them if not all of them considering his age.

you can have your opinion but you can't have your own facts because facts are facts.

i remember hearing a bunch of interviews discussing trinidads weight gains and DLH dropping down to fight at lightweight, and it was shocking that they dropped so much weight, it didn't seem fair, which is why i like same day weigh in because you keep guys from doing that crap..........

tito/oscar dropping weight can be a fact...still doesn't mean oscar/tito were dominant middleweights..which neither was...hopkins feasted on those fighters to overrated accolades...one thing is fact...neither oscar or tito entered boxing at 147 and scale down to beat up on guys...they entered in one division and moved up...

i'll give you a fact that hopkins stans find hard to swallow...hopkins entered boxing as a lightheavy, scaled down to 168, then scaled down again to 160 to beat up on a weak division...that don't sound too fair to me...

buy hey if you are impressed and consider him an atg because of that, more power to you...

you fail to realize that hopkins held it down at that weight, not being a 200 pounder dropping down to fight guys that moved up from 147 at 160, which would be the equivalent to what dlh and tito did, but maintaining and living at that weight for over 12 years means your body can handle the weight and it's within the body's NORM. hopkins being at 175, 168, obviously wasn't at his most comfortable weight where, although he could've gone up in weight, he kept himself at 160 no more than 172 according to him and his trainer, keeping a clean living lifestyle to support his career and his weight.

hopkins never dropped weight between fights to make 160, he was already there, all he had to do was train and prepare for his fights and the weight was already there, weight was never a concern, whereas with almost all other fighters who drop weight, it was a concern to make weight. so you really can't say hopkins came down from this division to fight at a lower division to have a advantage, when he made an adjustment in his career, early in his career, that lasted almost his whole career, to fight and hold down the same weight for 12 years.

i call shenanigans on fighters that continually come up in weight because they were never fighting at their natural weight.............. unless you were a little guy that has grown up during their career.

as you grow up and grow older it's HARDER to maintain the same weight, and that is one thing that i admired about calzaghe, he held it down like a real professional........

call it what you want, i'm pointing out what hopkins has done and his dominance at his weight class is on par with ATG status, and the wins at his old age, just seals the deal.............

you don't like hopkins, i do, we get that, but i'm pointing out the overlooked and ignore truisms of hopkins and his place in boxing history.....

my baby needs to be fed, so, peace out, and good luck on yours, i'm out.

you the first person on here who offered the most logical explanation for how hopkins can scale down and remain at 160 all those years...all of these other hopkins ballickers failed miserably by offering up excuses...so i give you some credit for that

fact still remains that hopkins entered boxing at 175 and scaled down to 160 to beat up on a weak division....to overrated accolades...not an atg in my book....
