So he might not be able to stay up to the 150 contracted weight even if he isn't eating enough after a tough 8 week or so training camp.

Combinations are like kryptonite for Pacquiao. He doesn’t throw punches until his opponents have stopped throwing their shots. This is something that has been a constant for Pacquiao in all of his fights.

He stops punching when his opponents open up with combinations. The trick here is not to stay in there and let Pacquiao have his turn at the offensive side of things. You keep Pacquiao on the outside eating jabs until you’re ready to light him up with combinations to the head and body.
I had to quote these specific paragraphs because they're totally true. If only Cotto would've realised this and stepped back out of range whilst he unloaded his combinations, the fight may well have ended up a very different story.

By electing to stay inside and wait for Pacquiao to fire back, he was asking to be floored by shots he couldn't see coming. That first round was absolutely perfect in terms of what Cotto should've done. Hell, the first jab he threw barely 10 seconds in the fight sent Pacquiao backwards across the ring.

I've always wanted to see a rematch of that fight. I don't think it'd be as one sided as people think.

        Cotto can whoop him imo.

Ya think? C'mon, this is Cotto we're talking about - the guy who gets flustered and starts to backpedal when he runs out of ideas. Margarito is still his father.

If he fights smart, I think he can. But he has to fight the perfect fight.

                But its doable.

But only if he fights smart.

                And a perfect fight.

                With no catchweight.

If Cotto boxed conservatively, stayed behind his jab, and kept a tight guard like he did at 1st with Pac and like he starts off many of his fights he could.

He never sticks to that I noticed though and always goes into doing more risky things and loses his technique as the fight goes on, he did better in that regard with Yuri but.............it was Yuri.

Still, its what makes him entertaining you get a bit of everything with Cotto and he is so heavy handed that your watching in suspense because he can always turn a fight around with a good shot.

The thing with Cotto is that we know he's capable of beating both Pacquiao and Margarito due to his superior skills - but mentally, he's frail in there and it only takes a few setbacks in an otherwise successful gameplan to throw him off and make him wilt.

Even Judah and Mosley showed signs of doing that, but in their case it was much too late.
