He could have remained at 168, unified the titles and did catchweight fights with oscar, tito, winky, vargas. Thats where the real $$ was with the welters and jr. middles moving up. Same thing Hopkins did at 160.

Probably would not have burned his body out when it was time to move up to 175. I do think Calzaghe would have given him problems in his prime, not so much Tarver.

The ONE fighter that went from MW - HW in 106 years... was Bob Fitzsimmons... but AFTER he won the HW championship... he moved back down and regained the LHW championship.

Roy made history by going from MW - HW... but he would never of truly matched what Bob Fitzsimmons did if he retired at HW.... He moved back down and completed what Fitzsimmons did.. and regained the LHW title...

It was worth it. Even he has said in his own words, I wouldn't take anything back... I made history.
I agree. Roy made me a hardcore boxing fan, and as a fan the first Tarver fight is one of, if not the most, gratifying wins of his career. For years you would listen to people say Roy ducked people and wouldn't be able to handle a close fight and ****** stuff like that, and to see an exhausted Roy gut it out against Tarver was what the sport is all about for me. He proved what he was made of.

Absolutely..... Roy was exhausted by round 4... he was trying to play it off, but he couldn't even move...

It was definitely satisfying to see...

Roy is before my time. Honestly when I think of Roy, I don't think of the prime Roy, I think of the current Roy. I pity him.

So many great fighters end this way. I never believed Roy for one minute when he spoke of retiring early. A man with his ego and pride (Leonard), never wants to go out looking bad or go out period.

sugar ray fought at 40 against camacho, and when he saw a smaller, part-time fighter like camacho could stop him, he got the f**k out...jones should have done the same thing when danny green put him out in the first round...some cats just don't learn
