back when Manny was going through life and death with Marquez in 08 I don't remember Manny people ranking him amongst the greats of all time and after that Post Diaz, DLH , Hatton, Cotto and Clottey he became one of the ATG's?
can you name another boxer whose stock went up that much in just over 2 years?
pacquiao has always gotten credit for his victories over barerra and morales,
and while their recent fight (the most one sided, and a clear marquez victory,) might have changed things, he was considered by most to have slightly edged marquez
being the best of that truly great FW era would have always meant something
those wins alone made him a hall of famer
we'll have a better time of judging the latter part his career once it plays out in his entirety
the most recent marquez fight can make his recent run appear to be a house of cards
but marquez own standing should indeed come into consideration. he's a bonafide ATG himself, and a nightmare in terms of the styles for an aggressor like pacquiao
i think the recent backlash against pacquiao is causing people to forget just how good the guy is // has been in the past few years
he ANNIHILATED hatton, de la hoya, cotto, and mosley
all hall of famers
and all bigger men
sure, we can poke holes in those victories (cotto was docked 2 lbs, hatton and de la hoya never fought again, mosley fought to a draw with sergio friggin mora, josh clottey didn't actually show up to fight, margarito is a punching bag, etc)
but i rememebr distinctly being in awe during the de la hoya, cotto, hatton, and margarito fights.
especially de la hoya, and hatton. i was dumbfounded.
i remember thinking that i was looking at one of the best boxers i've ever had the chance to see.Comment
