However, at the same time, people have to realize how America has treated its greats. Joe Louis died a broke man. Joe Frazier, with all his glory, leaves at the back of an old and decripid gym. Are any of his fans flocking to his aid and giving him what he so justly deserves?? As much as we hate to admit it, "legacy don't pay bills."

I mostly read a few articles instead or replying to posters here's because 80% of the posters here are in love with the fighters they cheer for and can't never have a legit boxing debate, they all seem to go into rants insulting and bashing others. Things they will never do in their local barbershop. But when I see a good post I sometimes feel compel to reply. Sometimes what I feel boxing is lacking is a system like all the other sports where they sign a contract and play the game. I know boxing is different, but what I think should happen is something like a contract, a certain amount of money from a network, say HBO signs the boxer for a 5 fight contract for say 2 million a fight, and a percentage of the gate and pay-per-view. So the fighters don't cheat the fans with a lack luster performance the winner of the fight gets the lions share of the pay-per-view so that will have both boxers motivated even more to win the fight. There are ways to make boxing better but I don't think anyone cares because we everyone is already making money with basketball, football, baseball, hockey and so on so they pretty much put boxing on the back burner. Sorry for the long post. Haha, what you guys think of a system like the one I suggested?

This sounds like a very reasonable plan. At the same time, there are many factors to consider. Fighters not only have to deal with the networks, but their personal promoters as well. These promoters are also out for their's. Couple with that is the fact that these networks, especially HBO, don't always chase the best possible bouts. Boxing, as you stated, is also on the backburner in comparison to other sports. I'm not entirely sure of its return to glory because the golden era of boxing was partly a product of the social fabric and events of its time. It will be hard to replicate it...

I hear you. I really dislike promoters, dictating fights and sometimes even ruining prospects by pushing them to fast and ruining their careers trying to get that next super star to make a dollar out of them. I feel for guys like Fernando Vargas,David Reid and many more that I can't think of right now. And the belts really make me sick. I use to be able to deal with the WBC, WBA AND IBF. But now there are even more with all the interim champ and diamond champion. Please. Boxing can be the top sport but many changes need to happen, changes I wont see in my lifetime.

Hate to break it to all the ******s on bscene and "writers" but an average of over 1 million fans aren't buying Floyd's PPV's to see him lose........NO you morons we are buying to see him win!!

Floyd has more fans in the USA than any other boxer. As of right now that is fact. HBO knows this and so does everyone else with a brain. Knowing these fans who "buy" the fights are from "urban" mkts as Ross Greenburg puts it should make it obvious to anyone capable of deductive reasoning that these fans are buying to see Floyd win.......

Floyd more than anyone makes the fans open their wallets and give up their hard earned. This is fact. Fans who trashed Mosley and JMM as easy beats and cherry picked opponents surely did not buy the PPV's (with their hard earned money---> (in a global downturn) in the hope to see Floyd lose against these highly inferior opponents?? That would be ****** wouldn't it??????

Some people are making this more complicated than it really is.

$40 million on the table and instead he chooses to go "on vacation".

If he really believes he can whoop Pac, he would've already agreed to fight.

            Simple as that.

Stop the BS and just get in the ring and fight !

His popularity here in the states is more of a 50/50 split that mirrors popular culture at this time. Floyd tends to carry that ****** street cred personality with him at all times which somehow gets described as arrogant and brash when it comes of as ignorant to some and cool to others. He does push PPV numbers because half of the people want to see him win while the other half salivate in anticipation of seeing his ass hit the canvas.
JMM sold numbers because it was more of a litmus test as a preview for his proposed showdown with Pac. I myself thought the size difference and skill was too much. My reasoning being that if Juan Diaz could hit JMM then Floyd could pepper him all night long which was pretty much what happened. SSM was viewed as more of a threat because of the speed and power, but again that excitement was based on the Margarito victory. I kept looking back to his performance against Mayorga as a comparison as well bc his success had been up and down in recent years.
After the recent video rant and weak attempt at an apology, it seems that more people will probably tune in to see him get beat if the mega fight ever happens even though I'm not exactly sure what will happen in that fight. That bout has so many intangibles that it could swing either way.

floyd is getting alot of press right now and rightfully so, you cant make racists comments this day and age with the internet and espn and get away with it. pacquiao could easily make comments like "mayweather looks like a bald monkey with fat lips who smokes crack and dropped outta high school and eats watermelon and chicken with a glass of g**** juice and a 40 oz of malt liquor" but pacquiao has way to much class.

If only floyd had parents who cared about him as a child instead of a mom who was a crackhead and a dad who was on drugs and likes beating women, maybe we wouldnt be talkin about his "hairless ape, big lip looking coward ass" <---something a racist like mayweather would say

this writer does'nt realize that when he posted this article that he's part of mayweathers promoting tactic.what floyd is doing is bringing more attention to himself which will help promote the pac vs cheato fight then here comes the huge build to mayweather vs moochiao early or mid next year.tune in.

"The danger is that people could begin to believe that the times Mayweather is playing a role are the times when he is seen delivering food to the homeless, when he is seen being kind or thoughtful."

Obviously delivering food to homeless people was a role.
                      If not.
Why he did it on HBO??

                      It was a pure joke.

Mayweather is a clown, and he taunted Kenny because Kenny was exposing him as a ducker, not to play a role.

Floyd is definitely a **** and a ****** guy grown in a crackheads family,he proved it in the RA the rugged man interview.
His answers to RA were ****** and worthy of a 3 years old ******ed kid.
