How many heavyweights out there do you believe could beat Vitali?

I reckon the answer has to be: not many.

I genuinely believe he's a lot better than he's reputed to be, and even though he's no all-time great (or ever likely to be) he's got more than enough advantages to deal with anyone out there today. Okay, he's got the loss to Byrd, but that was largely injuries sustained by beating the crap out of him.

I gather that a lot of people think he's ready to be taken, but maddeningly, he's only defended his title once, and against a rank outsider.

But put all the contenders together and who do you think could do it at present? I believe Rahman lacks skill, Peter lacks speed.

Probably the most likely candidate IMO is Lamon Brewster.

In fact, I'll make it a poll. My answer is 3-5... possibly.

I know a lot of ignorant people laugh when i say it, but i believe Juan Carlos Gomez has the sort of boxing ability to give VK trouble when he is 100% focused. i believe Luan Krasniqi will beat brewster, i think brewster's win over wlad was just a freak win.

Option 2. I think "potentially" 1 or 2 fighters could beat him. It has to be someone with a punch and the ability to take a punch. Perhaps Sam Peter when he gets more experience.

            Toney definitely beats him
Rahman can and probably will beat him
            Brewster maybe could beat him
            Peter maybe could beat him
            Byrd might beat him again

            That's about it

I agree, a lot of people think he has no skill. I believe he can beat any of the other champs at HW. Including John Ruiz and his hugging style.

I was under the impression that VK lost/quit due to a bad shoulder injury. Also up until that point was winning the fight. If I'm wrong please tell me otherwise.
