    How can a non-puncher develop a punch?

Saw Junior Witter from 2000 the other day (yeah, there's another thread about this) and the thing that struck me most is that in 2000 Witter couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag.

Yet since that time he's become a devastating puncher, with 15 KOs or TKOs out of 17 wins. Is there any precident for this... I mean, his body may have developed, but how can you go from being one of the softest to hardest-hitting fighters in a division?

Likely he just had piss poor mechanics and wasn't getting his weight into his punches. A person can be a great puncher and never realize it because they aren't properly trained.

It's hard to reply in your other thread as opinions can not be argued. If you see it that way, I won't try to change your mind.

Now, as far as this thread goes, Witter is now more experienced and has developed a much quicker upper body movement. This helps him with 2 things:

      1. plant his feet and throw harder punches.
      2. confidence to throw his punches harder and avoid punches at the same time.

However, since his last fight, his confidence outgrew his stamina. He WAS winning. He SHOULD have won. But he ran out of gas and got caught.

Alot of big punchers with boxing skills prefer to throw 80% of their punches soft and quick, and when they get a big enough opening, they blast the big shots. And sometimes, it is a matter of confidence or poor mechanics. Alot of fighters I see have no idea how to turn their weight on punches. I think it may have been an internal decision within his camp to turn him into a more marketable fighter to draw public demand for a big Junior Witter fight.

Witters just more confident now, even tho he still doesn't like to get hit, he sits down on his shots more and truly belives he can chin the other guy if he lands well, esp against Judah the confidence wasn't their thats why he ****ed about to survive he prob thought it better to get 12 rounds in against a true world class fighter rather than stand and trade more often and get ko'd in 5 or 6.
I ran into him in the street too and asked him about the judah fight and he said the hardest thing was making weight in such a short time

Technique, Witters plantig his feet more, over time you can turn into a puncher.
