Some fighters just are lucky and don't suffer serious health consequences and others do. There isn't a lot of consistency in terms of "how much is too much?"
You don't have to be in a lot of wars in fights to suffer brain damage really. A lot of it comes from sparring. Look at Terry Norris. He didn't suffer too many sustained beatings, his chin didn't allow it. He was known to go all-out in sparring, and his speech is slurred. James Toney is a very good defensive fighter, but has fought 600+ rounds in prizefights and who knows how many rounds of sparring. His speech has declined.
Jake LaMotta had about 100 fights. While he was a far better defensive fighter than the movie would lead you to believe, he undoubtedly suffered a lot of punishment. The last 3 rounds of Robinson VI were grotesque. But his health didn't appear to suffer seriously. George Foreman took a lot of punishment, watch his fights in the 90s when he was older and easy to hit. But he appears fine.Comment

George Foreman is another example.
This guy had 2 separate careers and fought some absolute beasts.
When he came back the 2nd time, his defense was just taking uppercuts all day.
He is more articulate than Lennox.
Tyson is fine as well. He's always had a lisp.Comment
