I was rewatching the fight the other day, and I still have a hard time understanding what happened to Shane after round 2. How do u nearly decapitate your opponent in the second round, then forget how to fight there on after. Yes Floyd made adjustments, but not to the extent where Mosley should have completely stopped throwing punches the way he did.
What is your take on what happened?
I personally don't think you are having such a hard time figuring out what happened, but I will take you at your word.
Shane went for it all and hit Floyd with everything he had and it didn't KO him. Usually, when you hit another man as hard as you can and he doesn't go you become somewhat intimidated if not outright scared. Floyd started coming foward, holding/clenching when necessary, and started throwing (faster) punches first.
I do think Mosley decided in round 8 or 9 that he wouldn't let himself get KO'd and did quit to a degree.
Also Floyd started coming forward in the third round. He almost met Shane in his corner he ran up on him so fast. Shane was toast he hit Floyd with his best punch and Floyd damn near Jogs towards him at the start of the round?
once Floyd recovered, he turned it up a notch... Shane started getting beat to the punch, he shelled up...afraid to get countered because his couldnt match handspeed
kinda like what happened to Clottey
mayweather isnt exactly the type of guy that just lets rounds go. if he feels the tide is turning, he shockingly turns it up, which is what he did.
You're thinking to hard. The simple answer is the correct one. Floyd made the proper adjustments, he got mosley's speed down and maintained the right amount of distance throughout the rest of the fight.
Floyd does that a lot though. Perfect example is Zab Judah, It took floyd a few rounds to really get Zab's speed and timing down, hence Floyd losing a couple early rounds and even getting rocked and nearly flash knocked down. He completely dominated after though.
After Mosley clocked Floyd with that overhand right, Floyd landed some body shots to tire Mosley.
You could see Floyd sitting in his stool after round 2 watching the replay on the MGM screen to figure out the mistake he made.
He fell for Mosley's feint jab to the body, and had his lead foot placed too far inside of Mosley's lead foot.
Mosley tries to setup that overhand right upstairs by feinting with the jab to the belly again in in the round, but Floyd was aware of its true intent and didn't react to it.
Mosley was dope tested and couldn't inject or rub his insane and unadulterated dosages of PED's to get that superhuman strength he displayed against the walking corpse Margarito.
Actually he didnt. I dont recall him making any attempts at throwing a meaningful power punch after round 2.
Yes he did, floyd just wasn't there no more. Actually, he tried it before the 2nd rd and slipped on it the first time. Then he tried it several times after that but Floyd was out of range for it.
it got to point where Mosley was only trying to land a big shot after a break. He started to clinch so he could get a shot off in the break, that was why he clinching so much.
