Boxing isn't something you can take on seriously past 20 years old. By then it's too late.
Sergio Martinez began boxing when he was 20.

He's already beaten KJ Noons ass.

Frankie Edger is not a boxer why are we even discussing this.

Seriously out of all the styles represented in the UFC Boxers are the only one who cry bbiittcchh and mone when one of their fighters gets beat.

              Agreed. Noons isn't a top-flight boxer though.

I don't know...maybe Edgar might have decent boxing skills. But the point is you have a pro boxer calling out a guy who isn't a pro boxer to come into his arena.

That would be like Edgar calling out Omar to have a wrestling match. It wouldn't be close either.

At least if they met in mma both fighters can exercise their strongest skillsets without limitation (while exercising any other skillsets they might have picked up along the way)

I think it has a lot to do with the MMA vs boxing thing ,honestly.

and now that the toney fight is done, I expect more of it to happen.

I mean.. Silva/Jones was heard about for EVER because Silva wanted it, and things like that. KJ Noons the other night just called out PBF in a boxing match as well.. i'd expect a lot of this to happen in the next year or 2.

Most mma fans would have expected Jones to tool Silva back when they were talking about this fight, even in Jones advanced age. But I do think that a lot of fans would have been intrigued just to see how Silva stacked up - and I don't think that there's anything wrong with a guy wanting to do that.

Why do we as fans discourage guys from just giving it a shot (at least if the guy has some legit, world class skills to bring to the table)

KJ Noons - I would love to see him have his ass handed to him by PBF. But it'll never happen because Noons is a nobody and rightly PBF will ignore him because he won't even know who the **** Noons is. Hell...most casual mma fans wouldn't even know who Noons is

Exactly, and it's sad. But boxing fans who follow the sport, or hardcore MMA fans know exactly who the guy is.. and commend him for primarily taking boxing into the cage and having the success he's having.

I think it just has to do with the sports Orgs though. These type of fights are very hard to get sanctioned in boxing but in MMA, it's not about sanctioning really, it's more so about what promotion is willing to put on a "show".

Randy/James would never be sanctioned in the states under boxing rules, for example.

Funny thing...I do suspect that Randy is a smart enough, tough enough, athletic enough, durable enough and fit enough guy with enough boxing training to be able to survive a few rounds with James. I don't think he'd be skilled enough or quick enough to be able to mount much offense against him...but I'd bet he could defend himself and tough it out for a little while.

Is that enough to get sanctioning??? I don't know what the test is. Is the test "does this fighter have any reasonable, realistic chance of winning this bout?". If that's the test, then I'd guess that the answer is no.
