In the amateurs, Povetkin had the best record of all-time at super heavyweight. He fought world's best super-heavyweights for about six years.
In the pros, he was fighting some decent opponents in 2007 and 2008: Larry Donald, then Chris Byrd, then Eddie Chambers. He was on his way to big things.
After his injury in late 2008, he had a warm-up fight with a clubfighter Taurus Sykes, and in 2009 he was in with a soft-punching but skillful young journeyman in Jason Estrada.
Since he began working with Atlas, he's taken the same route as Michael Grant: fighting clubfighters. First it was Leo Nolan, who hadn't fought in a long time, and then Javier Mora, who was stopped in round one by Sultan Ibragimov.
Now Atlas will have him in with more low-risk opposition, not dangerous fighters like Adamek's past two (Arreola and Grant) but softer guys on the same level as Mora and Nolan.
Povetkin's prime will be wasted. It's very sad. -
he talked about adamek as one of the guys they are eyeing in the new year.i agree sasha has a decent resume but that was around 3 years ago.he hasnt fought anyone who can punch so his chin is still a huge question mark.im assuming one of his next opponents will be able to punch...i hope at least...michael grant maybe? no announcements yet but 2 dates he fights.we will see who he fights very soon.In the amateurs, Povetkin had the best record of all-time at super heavyweight.
