White America needs to produce good boxers

you can be a middle class high school or college guy and take up mma and become champion but you cant really do that with boxing.

That is unfortunately part of it, and that's something I don't understand. Sure, there are a lot of good white MMA fighters, but aren't the best fighters guys that AREN'T white? So what the hell?

Besides, MMA isn't nearly as popular as they try to proclaim themselves as. They may have more of a media push at the moment, but boxing is every bit as popular.

Why does the usa love ufc? its because white fighters practically dominate the sport and white america loves it.
Face it, the only good american boxers are black and quite frankly mainstream white america dont care about them.

Just look at chad dawson and andre berto but yet when kelly pavlik comes on the scene hes huge.
White/black/hispanic people will support their own kind, just looking at the Ufc crowd tonight reminded me a of a wrestling match. All white drunks.

This isnt a racist post but all the white fighters are coming from europe, white fighters attract fans. Especially american whites and thats where the money is at.

boxing has fell off cause of promoters and guys like Floyd who cherry pick.

The ufc is well promoted and dana makes sure the best fight the best and there is no cherry picking.

The vast majority of serious boxing gyms in the country are in the ****** or in downtown areas close to the ******.

That has no appeal to most white kids from the suburbs or elsewhere who not only find themselves in a hostile environment but have to go WAY out of their way to get there just to train. Where the black kid or the Hispanic kid can just walk down the street after class to go train.

Boxing gyms have to be appealing to everyone. Not just a certain ethnic group.

Race is a factor, there's no doubt about that; it's perfectly natural for one to gravitate toward or support their own race in sport. However, I tend to agree with the guys in this thread who see the problem as being, largely, an organisational one.

White is able to guide MMA almost single-handedly; he makes sure the fights that need to materialise do; and he does a great job of packaging event DVDs and so on. He's tapped into an ageing WWE/WWF market as well. His shows have all the bombast of a WWE event.

I don't think boxing particularly HAS to learn from MMA (it's survived this long and we're a loyal bunch) but it'd be nice for us if, as fans, it did learn to direct and manage itself properly. The grass roots are fine (at least here in Britain they are) but we just don't get enough big boxing glamour nights that grab the interest of casual fans.
