Is Chris John still the WBA FW champion?

I was curious about this because when I looked up the tv schedule it says here on boxrec

    http://boxrec.com/schedule.php?count...=HBO&SUBMIT=Go

that on HBO the title fight between Gamboa and Salido is for both the FW IBF and WBA "super" title which is the one that John holds while before Gamboa was ordinary WBA champion after his interim WBA championship status was bumped from that vacant title he won from some club fighter.

I think so. But who gives a damn at this point? The #1 FW right now is Lopez. John just isn't active enough and Lopez has already put together a good enough string of wins to surpass him imo.

I would consider him #1 if he beats Rafa but not just yet, and its not all on JuanMa's merit even its more than anything on John's inactivity that I would rank JuanMa above him.

Though the point of the is thread is that if this is the case with the WBA title situation then Gamboa basically got handed a world title for beating a journeyman, not saying he couldn't win one legit but................I'm just saying.

Really? Imo Chris John is still #1 FW. Lopez had what 2 fights at FW so far?

As much as I don't like Juan Ma, I've got him ranked #1 at 126. I'll bet the Ricans are shocked aren't they? Here's why. How can you rank a guy #1 who is as inactive as John is and went out of his way to re-schedule a fight with a boxer with only 1 KO in a bunch of fights? And if Rafa some how defies the odds and upsets Lopez, I would put him at #1 as well. To me, Gamboa, Lopez, and Cab are the class of the division and that means it's weak even though those guys are considered elite fighters because they haven't put in any work or fought each other yet.

The fuss over the belts is pointless. None of them mean a damn thing to me but the Ring belt. I don't think Lopez even needs to beat Marquez to be considered the top guy at 126. I won't hold that win in too high a regard. It's more of a trophy name than a really significant victory for him.

If you want to rate him at this point at # 1 fine but can we agree its not so much on his accomplishment and more so on John just not doing anything?

Lets say John fight Caba or someone good and wins, that puts him back at #1 as far as I am concerned, I mean JuanMa has 2 FW fights even if he did beat good fighters in impressive fashion.

In all seriousness, fuck Chris John. I hate the fella. Collectively the best FWs are Gamboa and Lopez - they'd spark him out embarrassingly.

Oh, I agree and stated as much mate. John is always on the shelf for one reason or another and doesn't seem eager to mix it up with the names in the division right now.
