he shoulda kept the WBC JMW belt and ditched his alphabet belts at 160
he has the Ring belt so who cares?
WBC just don't let fighters keep 2 division straps

First the WBO stripped him because the WBO said they had some bull****, never before enforced rule that you cant hold a title in a different weight class from a different sanctioning body. They said he had 30 days to fix the situation.

That week Martinez vacated the 154 WBC belt. The WBC had already told him he had to choose one or the other, so Martinez vacated in hopes of retaining his 160 WBO belt.

They didnt give it back. So within a month or so of beating Kelly Pavlik, Martinez was stripped of two world titles. Not for not defending them, not for losing them in the ring, but because the organizations simply wanted them back.

Keep in mind they knew all this when they took thousands of dollars in sanctioning fees from Martinez when they allowed him to fight for the titles.

There was an article on here that said Sergio kind of dropped the 154 belt out of spite, because the main reason the WBC was stripping him was because they wanted to give the strap to Chavez Jr. Chavez had *****ed out of an opportunity to fight Martinez earlier this year, so the WBC had to find another way to get Chavez their strap.

Sergio gave up the 154 belt because JCC Jr cant make 154, so if he wanted a strap Chavez would have to fight him after all.

Sadly, the WBC checkmated Martinez by creating the WBC Silver Belt and giving to to Chavez. Pathetic.

They took his belt away a month ago because they want two different champions at two different weight classes. They would get more money if two different fighters have the belts instead of Sergio having both belts and only defending one belt.

It was when Martinez said he felt more comfortable at 160, and he wanted to remain there, and at that point, he ditched his 154 belt.

That is the case that they are fighting for his 154 belt that Martinez won. That belt is weird in the fact that the last time the title changed hands in the ring, and not due to a vacancy was when Mayweather beat Oscar De La Hoya.

He had the 154 belt for ages... they stripped Vernon Forrest of it... I think you meant that he dropped the 154 belt about a month after he won his 160 belt.

I'm about as close to 100% sure as you can be that the rematch with Williams will be at middleweight.

The WBC enforced that he couldn't hold their belt in two different divisions. The WBO decided to be dumb, and just strip him for no reason, and gave the belt to Pirog after he beat Jacobs.
