  • Comments Thread For: Sam Peter Looks To Make The Best of His Second Chance

By Keith Idec - James Toney will try to reinvent himself tonight as a mlxed martlal artlst.

The hard-hitting heavyweight who defeated Toney twice is busy trying to reinvent himself as a boxer.

Samuel Peter promised on a conference call Friday to box better and smarter during his rematch against Wladimir Klitschko on Sept. 11 than he did during their first fight. Peter dropped Klitschko, then still shell-shocked from technical knockout defeats in 2003 and 2004, three times in their IBF elimination match nearly five years ago in Atlantic City.

Peter’s performance before and between those two knockdowns in the fifth round and another in 10th round was what cost the rugged Nigerian the fight and a guaranteed shot at Chris Byrd, then the IBF champion. Klitschko, while reluctant to engage, out-boxed the knockout-crazed, impatient Peter and won comfortably, 114-111, on all three scorecards, despite those three trips to the canvas. Peter was thoroughly outboxed by Wlad in their first fight. Apart from the knockdowns, Peter didn't do much else.

Wlad will dispose of him, handily.

This won't be close. Peter will get that azz beat pretty good. He's got heart though.

This outline is probably the most correct description of the W Klitschko fight that a boxing writer has yet written. All the same, Klitschko completely outclassed Peter in every phase of that fight, except rabbit punching and shoving to the canvas. Peter also excelled at rushing Klitschko across the ring, backpedalling to stay of of Peter's wild sweeps of his gloves.

Do you guys never get tired of talking about Peter's 3 "knockdowns" which weren't really knockdowns at all, as any lazy look at the slo motion of the tumbles can show. Even the Commentators and analyst were commenting on the illegality of the supposed knockdowns, and Mr. Magoo Neumann the "ref" (so-called) was so bad that even a pair-or TWO pairs- of glasses wouldn't have helped.

Give Klitschko the FULL credit for this win, which he knew he HAD to get, to prove himself.

AND....INCIDENTALLY, this fight SHOWED without any doubt, that Klitschko's chin is solid. He took more than a few heavy punches too the chin during Peter's frantic assaults, without any ill effects at all.

Why don't you guys admit it, be fair, and stop referring to his"shaky chin" ................the one he doesn't have.

Yep, I've been saying for a long while that Wlad's chin is nowhere near as bad as it's portrayed by his detractors (the same ones who laugh at his being knocked out by a "fat golfer"). Not just in the Peter fight but in many fights during his career, Wlad has been hit by some really solid shots and fought through them, and the three times he was ever stopped in his career he was TKOed, not knocked unconscious. This is not the definition of a glass jawed fighter. Is it the definition of an iron chinned one? No, but shades of grey, guys, shades of grey...

Oh lets be real man his chin is not very good hence his now far more defensive style Steward helped him with. But Peter didn't hit him with many clean shots that fight and i can't remeber a legit KD in that fight. I don't see how this fight will go in Peters favour at all... i see far wider scores and no KDS for Peter this time.

I am being real. Wlad doesn't have a glass chin, he has an average or slightly below average chin that can withstand a fair number of shots before cracking. Peter actually did hit him with some pretty massive punches in their first fight including a sequence of head-snapping overhands in the last few rounds that legitimately put Wlad down to one knee (but not knocked unconscious). Considering what a big puncher Peter is that's far from unexpected really. Once again, I'm not saying Wlad has a very good chin, I'm simply saying he doesn't have a totally china one.
