I'm not really sure about this so I'll sit on the fence until I get a better analysis and then I'll jump off it.
Whitaker had the superior jab and workrate. Probably a better bodypuncher too, although Floyd is far from a slouch in that department. Whitaker's also probably better at pivoting his body in weird positions to get unusual angles on opponents. Whitaker did have some left hand power when he loaded up on it, but overall Floyd hit harder. He makes his punches count despite them being low in number, and hits hard & accurate enough to discourage or at least get the respect of most of his opponents. Floyd's straight right is more effective than Whitaker's straight left. Floyd's left hook is better than Whitaker's right hook. I'd say he also has the uppercut advantage over Whitaker.
Mayweather is better at walking guys down, as he's good at hiding behind the high guard, and either blocking and countering, or leading and then defending. Whitaker had this thing though where he could lead and then use his shoulder to back up opponents, and rough them up on the ropes (he did this to Chavez). Whitaker was probably a little better in the pocket although Mayweather is obviously terrific in the pocket too. Not sure whom I'd say is more effective on the backfoot or moving laterally. In his prime, Floyd was a better offensive fighter than Sweet Pea was. He was also a harder puncher in my opinion. However Sweet Pea probably had the better defense. I mean even at the end of his career he was making elite boxers swing at air for 12 rounds.Comment

I think Floyd. Whitaker had better output, but Floyd's more accurate, more powerful and I think overall more skilled.Comment
