david tua vs chauncey welliver in wbo title eliminator?

i brought this up a month or so ago.now welliver won again last night vs tai.he is #11 in the WBO & holds a couple regional titles.he sounds like he is pushing to flex his interim status for asian pacific title.if this fight happens the winner will be getting a wbo title shot.adamek is #1 but tua is #2 so this fight has importance to it.welliver ir trained by joe hipp & apparently is in great shape, vastly improved his boxing skills & follows a game plan to a tee.he also can take a punch.welliver has worked extremely hard & tua should not take him lightly as we all saw the problems he had with barrett.never thought welliver would do anything but he is knocking at the top 10 contender door...tai was a late replacement & it was the 3rd time they fought.it went 12.

Welliver, who makes Chris Arreola seem physically fit in comparison, is AWFUL and shouldn't be ranked by the WBO.

Tua looked old in his past two fights against Barrett and Ahunyana, so even a disgustingly fat bum like Welliver has a chance of beating him now.

They should have a better-quality young heavyweight fight Tua in an eliminator (someone like Boytsov or the winner of Sexton-Chisora II).

This is a good fight for David Tua. Welliver is a decent journeyman, has been very active this year but is light handed as evidenced by his record (43-5-5, 14 kos) and has fought dismal competition. Basically a low risk fight but good reward in the WBO rankings...

Also, I'm not writing Tua off just yet. He had a off night against a very motivated Monte Barrett and could get right back into the title hunt with a few good wins, or maybe even one (against Welliver). Wlad and Vitali are running out of viable opponents, since they've beaten most everyone and Tua still has the name recognition...

hes dropped like 60 pounds & is in around 240.he owns the wbc continental americas title & is the interim wbo asian pacific title.hes active & is taking the regional belt ranking route...not a bad idea imo but i agree he is crap compared to many other boxers but a win vs tua puts him in place for a final eliminator or possible title shot.many of the other top wbo ranked guys have backed out of fights.povetkin(#3),adamek(#1) both backed out & boytsov is still recovering from an injury i believe.dimitrenko is in line for euro title shot so these guys are busy.welliver might be able to sneak in the title picture with a win....sad but very possible this guy could be in an eliminator.

Dimitrenko won the European title on July 31.

I didn't know Welliver dropped all the weight. I remember how horrible he looked in the fights I saw.

i forgot sasha won the euro belt.ill have to see on boxingrec what he weighed but his last fight i think he was under 250.apparently joe hipp has done a great job with him but he still hasnt fought anyone good so im skeptical how far he can go.hes just collecting ranking building regional titles to get him self in position for a big fight....could imagine this guy actually getting a title shot? no one thought audley would but a euro title win & a win at prizefighter has put him on the brink of a title shot.

yep welliver was down to 240.5 for the fight.thats 50 lighter then he fought solis at.solis & arreola should hire joe hipp to train them.hipp has turned a fat side show into a decent shaped boxer.he obviously needs to fight better competition but its a step in the right direction...solis,tua & arreola should have a llok at hipp...whatever hes saying to welliver its working.
