I've heard of that as well. Which could be good for Jmm because IMO competition drives people to great things. P4P though, Jmm does not come close to Finito.

I used to think Finito is the most technical fighter I've seen as well but some clips of Burley made me doubt.

finito was a b*tch for not moving up in weight & challenging himself. he was content with fighting a buncha malnourished midgets & pinoys & padding his record.

      he was a great fighter.....

      but a swindler.

Finito was a skilled MF. I could picture that high guard.

        Seen his son box. Decent

What an artist. He is arguably the best pure technical Boxer ever. It's a shame that in the next 10 years from now, it's gonna hard to find Boxers who can emulate that style.

              Nobodies perfect.

But judging by the critique it seems that Finito played it safe.

If he had dared to be great like JMM he probably would've gotten iced.

i know its premature, but JMM >> Finito.

I stand by that despite not knowing **** about Finito.

If JMM thinks he's better, thats good enough for Buffman.

I consider him at least a top 20 ATG. I know some people might disagree but if you go and watch his key fights then i'm sure you will change your mind.

Lopez is definitely an ATG technician. And I don't know about the allegation that Lopez was unwilling to test himself against some of the big dogs. On a different discussion forum, I heard that Lopez supposedly in negotiations to fight Carbajal should he get past Gonzalez in their rematch, but he obviously ended up losing.

So....I did a quick news archive search and came up with this info indicating that Lopez was looking for those big fights.

                      from a Dec 1993 article
"Lopez, who weighed 104 3/4, has been seeking a bout with WBC junior flyweight champion Michael Carbajal. "

from a Jul 19, 1993 article after Carbajal defended his titles against Kwan Sum Kim.
"Michael Carbajal] said the fight he wants first is a 108-pound unification bout with World Boxing Association champion Myung-Woo Yuh of South Korea"
"After the victory, Carbajal was asked whether he wanted to fight Mexico's Ricardo Lopez, who is undefeated. If Danny (Carbajal, his brother and trainer) tells me to fight King Kong, I'll fight him," he said. Carbajal would go on to defend against Domingo Sosa before losing to Gonzalez in the rematch.

"So much for the much-anticipated matchup between mighty Lilliputians Michael Carbajal and Ricardo Lopez. Carbajal, who was expected to fight the unbeaten strawweight champion this year, lost a split decision and his IBF light flyweight title to unknown Colombian Mauricio Pastrano."
                      from a January 19, 1997 article
