You know I saw some of Marquez comments (ones you are referring to) but I never understood what made Marquez say some of those things. Hopefully someone can fill me though.....

I think technically he is as close to perfection as you could expect. He had great speed, power, footwork, defence and anticipation. When I came on this site I couldn't believe that none of his fights are here. I know he was in the lower weight classes but his career was unbelievable. He made 20 defences of the WBC Minumweight title and also won the WBO and WBA belts at the same weight class and the IBF Light Flyweight belt aswell. Regardless of what you think of his weight class, you can only beat the best in your era and he beat everyone in his era. Ricardo also defended his belt in Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Mexico and the U.S.

Can you imagine if somebody made 15-20 defences of the Welterweight or Middleweight title? It's a real shame that Lopez doesnt get as much recognition because of his size. Boxing should be about skills and I think he is one of the greatest of all time. Definetly in the Top 25 if not higher.

P.S - I have his career set on DVD and will upload it in the video section soon. I have about 21 of his fights. Anyone who is interested in boxing should check this guy out. He was an amazing boxer.

Marquez was once asked if he thought he was Berensteins greatest student, He stayed quiet and just said "Next question"

Lopez is definitely one of the finest technical boxers ever, I wouldn't say he was under rated, he gets paid his due respect by those that know of him.

Edit: It's also a shame that he was under Don King's contract, Don King tried to keep him under covers for most of his career and was always promoting Chavez as "Mexico's greatest warrior" and the "Best thing out of Mexico" but he never once mentioned Lopez .
I disagree. I think that's just how the boxing public are. It's a shame but people were more interested in seeing the likes of Tyson and Holyfield, Chavez, De La Hoya and Trinidad. In that era of fighter's he was never going to be in that many main event fights, although he did get some as he became more popular later in his career.

Just consider that for a long time he was fighting in the wilderness of Thailand, Japan, South Korea and Mexico. Chavez told Don King about him and Don put him on alot of his undercards. He introduced Lopez to the American audience on Showtime when alot of people didnt know about him. He also got him unification fights with Alex Sanchez and Rosendo Alvarez and let him fullfill one of his dreams of fighting at Madison Square Garden.

I think King actually did very well for him.

Finito was one of Mexican great ring technicians, but all styles have a down side. Finito had problems defending from lateral offense as we saw on his 1st fight with alvarez. There's always some one with a style to beat yours.

there's a lot of finito c*ck sucking going on so let me be the first to start keeping it real around here:

lopez was great fighter but he loses a lot of points for being a b*tch & not moving up in weight. he was the joe calzaghe of the minimum weight division. he could have moved up in weight & taken on the likes of michael carbajal, humberto gonazales, melchor cob castro, leo gamez etc.

the same crap calzaghe pulled by staying in super middle even though he had prime jones & prime hopkins above & below him.

he's a great fighter & a great talent, but he pussied out (some say its beristain's fault) on some challenges.

you could say he was the chico corrales of the minimum weight division & was using the 24 rehydration as a way to take advantage of his height & reach to get unfair advantage over his much smaller opponents.

                    UNDEFEATED RECORDS= SU****IOUSNESS.
