Lets get something straight about Maidana, he is a guy that you beat on your way to a Championship, a tough guy who is going to push you, give you a rough fight, but not someone who should be fighting in any elimination tourney to prove something Lol

Its not so much he is being overrated by anyone specifically, its just he gets way too much notoriety based on what he can do imo.

Maidana is crude but he has a hell of a punch. Stylistically, the only top 140 pounder he has a chance of beating is Amir Khan. And that is only because of Khan's weak chin. Although I still think Khan can outbox him or knock him out. Alexander, Bradley, and Kotelnik all UD him.

It's because of Khan. You're absolutely right, Maidana is a good fighter, and the type of guy you have to beat to be a top fighter at 140, but he has a reputation that continues to grow because Khan will not get in the ring with him.

When a fighter is avoided by someone like this, people tend to start to overrate them. If/when Khan finally fights him, and probably beats him, people will look back and wonder why they hyped him so much to begin with. But until Khan does, we will all wonder why he won't fight him and Maidana will continue to get overrated.

Agreed, his rep is built on his affiliation with Khan, which is his reluctance to fight him.

Yeah, and that is where the hyperbole starts, Khan, will get the feeling he is never going to get the respect he deserves, in his mind it will be, i fought a fighter you wanted me to fight, only in fans mind it will be, he was over-hyped to begin with, therefore, not a good win.

This is the problem, it goes from one extreme to another, fans should keep their perspective of how good Maidana actually is, and set aside whether he is looking better than he is cause Khan is reluctant to fight him, and Khan, for his part, should fight him, but also understand that Maidana is only seeming like a good win, cause he was too scared to fight him from the get go.

Agree 100%. It's no coincidence everyone at 140 wants a piece of Maidana. It's because realistically Maidana.ain't.shit.

His reputation has nothing to do with Kahn it has to do with the beatdown he put on Victor Ortiz. Before Maidana Ortiz was the next big thing not Kahn. Maidana is much more than what some people give him credit for while he's not as skilled at Bradley or Kahn but his heart and will to fight make up for his lack of skills. Don't sleep on Maidana Ortiz did and look at what happened to him.

agree with this 100%. Maidana's power and resilience make up for his lack of a 'technical skillset'

I slept on Maidana and he trashed Ortiz, I was one of those fell into the Ortiz hype, and I lost it all that night.

If they both stepped into the ring, I wouldn't put anything on Khan, Maidana is one of the hardest punchers at 140. I do love Khan's boxing skills but I don't he's ready for a hard puncher.

I see how you can feel this way but TBH I think he beats all of the 140lb except Bradley.Devon hit way to easy and Maidana is a dog..Con has a weak chin great boxing skills tho I'll take Maidana's rugged style to break con.Ortiz we already see what happens there.Judah would get broke down..Kottie IMO lost that fight to Maidana and got some home cooking.Bradley would school Maidana that's just my opinion..

Devon did not want to rush and fight him..Con does not want any either.Ortiz you guess it does not want any more lol..So I heard Bradley and Zab say they want some that's not alot. What about what Maidana did to Cayo that had alot of people rethinking fighting Maidana..
