Comments Thread For: Shaw: HBO Should've Forced Khan, Maidana into Tourney

During a recent appearance on BoxingScene.com's official audio show, Leave It In The Ring Radio, promoter Gary Shaw discussed HBO's failed attempt to make a tournament at 140-pounds. HBO approached several promoters with their idea, including Shaw, Don King and Golden Boy Promotions. Shaw was willing to insert WBO champion Tim Bradley intor the tournament, and King was willing to put in WBC/IBF champ Devon Alexander. Shaw says Golden Boy were not willing to put in WBA champ Amir Khan, Juan Manuel Marquez, Marcos Maidana and Victor Ortiz. [Click Here To Read More]

It is a shame that Khan and Maidana aren't facing each other. I rarely agree with Shaw, but he is right except with the use of the word 'force'...!

Maidana might have broke Khan's chin for all we know...

Khan's a better fighter but Maidana has some pop...

It's probably because khan's career is based on avoiding the biggest threats at this stage. A tourney that forced him into facing the top contenders right now would put khan in a uncomfortable position.

Khan got KOed by Prescott...who isn't exactly a killer...

I'd be protecting him too...at least for a lil while...

Malignaggi was a respectable win hopefully he fights another solid opponent...

Golden boy seem to have the weaker hand when it comes to their fighters in this potential matchup anyway.
