Andre Ward is a dirty fighting sneaky opportunist.

He's not leaning in to butt or anything, he just tries to keep his head down so his chin will be down and not exposed, Hopkins does it, many fighters do it.Comment

how is holding with one arm and hitting with the other a bad thing? Calzaghe and Whitaker both used that tactic to great advantage.
if the guy is just going to try and cover up/grab and wait for the ref to break you out of the infight, I say screw it and keep punching.
theres a big difference between flat out clinching and still being able to fight with your arms entangled. a good portion of Leonard-Duran 1 was spent in that fight style, and that was a beautiful display of boxing.
its just that nowadays people are totally spoiled and unfamiliar with that style and are used to refs breaking every single clinch the instant fighters get close, and dont know how to roughhouse fight on the inside...which takes skill to do, even if it isnt 'pretty' to some people.
its like people forget that boxing is a fight sometimes.Comment

I can't argue against his style, my motto is "Handle your own business". No different from when I watched Guerrero vs. Smith, Smith may have fouled him excessively but Guerrero allowed it by not retaliating as much as he should have. Rather then end up lookin' like a bitch on television, Kessler against Ward, Nate Campbell against Bradley, Winky against B-Hop...and constantly bitchin' to the ref, get dirty in return. These are men we're talking about here.
Ward can get dirty, although people are over exaggerating a bit. What he did against Green was brilliant stuff. It's not a beautiful style to watch though, atleast in my opinion. It's smart stuff but not really all that entertaining. I do hate the B-Hop comparisons though. Being a HUGE B-Hop fan, all I can say is that there is a distinct difference between the two.Last edited by Doctor_Tenma; 08-21-2010, 10:31 AM.Comment

Ward is a guy who can box inside or out. What he does in the ring is not on purpose. It's rare to find a fighter who leads with his head on purpose. It isn't rare to see guys hold and hit.Comment

I think Ward's speed negates a lot of things.
He can butt and get out fast.
I often think that if a guy could take one step back and fire when he's coming in it could nullify him but it seems like no one so far is quick enough or can time him well enough to pull it off.
Remember Ward getting dropped against Kenny Kost early in his carer?
I think you need impeccable timing to negate some of his tactics and the guys he's fought just aren't quick enough.Comment

Originally posted by Freedom FighterAndre Ward needs his home referee so he can hit while holding, and deliberately headbutt.
So he won't fight a world-class opponent outside Oakland.
He calls himself the "Son of God"...
Yet he can't win without cheating.Comment

I don't understand all the love for Ward, to be honest. He is boring doesn't have that much of power.
People here are saying Ward would beat Bute, I just can't imagine that. Bute would do to Ward what he did to Miranda... Mid round TKO.
I can't wait for that ****ing Super-6 tournament to be over... I want to see Bute fighting the best 168pounds...
Andrade isn't a scum, but he ain't really that good, he's got iron chin but he is what... may be top-10 in the 168 ? Like 8th or 9th. Miranda isn't good anymore. Bute murked Zuniga and Berio and he had an kinda easy fight against Bika.
I want to see Abraham vs Bute or Dirrell vs Bute.
But it won't happen before a long long time.
I want to see Ward vs BikaComment
