Further to my letter of the other evening about the Ceremeno-Moreno fight, the solid info is that we have to be on our way to the arena at 3.30 in the afternoon, there are SIXTEEN fights altogether, the first one beginning at 4.30 p.m; the main event begins at 11.30 p.m.
This is a WHOLE DAY event, and I hope there's at least one break during the evening.........phew.
I'm really looking forward to the whole night's boxing.
They take their fights seriously here. And, I'm told, there may even be a few extra fights, unscheduled I mean, in the crowd of fans.Comment

The referee in the first fight, Luis Pabon, was Puerto Rican. This fight is generally expected to be a very hot item, a grudge match, since, as well as the one deducted point -by a Panamanian ref- in Venezuela making it officially a draw, the consensus of the local Panamanian TV viewers, the ones I've been speaking to anyway, was that Ceremeno won the fight, and was robbed.
So I already have tickets, for myself and a few guests, for this Saturday night. The main undercard begins at 8 p.m. but we have to be there not later than 6, as, even though we have tickets prebooked and paid for, (bought in my local pharmacy) it's first come, first served and there's going to be a swarm of fans.
And I've been told not to bring any more money with me than enough for expenses, that to take out more than a few dollars, is asking for trouble.
So all in all, I'm expecting it to be an exciting experience.
There are 15 fights down for decision.
The first fight was a bit funny in the way people saw it from what I gather. I thought it was a very close fight, and so did the few people I know who watched it and scored it. Most of the reports I saw mentioned it was a close fight.
Yet, I've also heard that many who saw it in Panama thought Cermeno won.Comment

I got lazy watching the fight, so I stopped keeping score, but it was similar to the first Mayweather-Castillo fight, except it was Moreno finding himself as the aggressor for much of the fight.I scored it a draw, as for Cermeno being "reduced to to only landing clean to the body" you have to take into account that he landed A LOT of shots to the mid section, he landed many of them, many. It was hard to score though, but I put a lot into scoring it, I even rewatched certain rounds 4-5 times because I do my best to avoid even rounds, but I'm not against doing that either. Here was my scorecard,
Moreno round 1, 3, 4, 6, 9
Cermeno 2, 7, 8, 10, 11-1 (Point Deduction and rightfully so), 12
Round 5 even (I rewatched this round 5 times).
You detailed the fight good, but I had Moreno basically sweeping almost the entire first half with maybe a round toward Moreno and the last half Moreno and Cerme~o basically splitting it.
I think it was round 8... Moreno gets hit and it backs him up to the ropes, then Cerme~o follows it up with a barrage. Moreno seemed to be stunned in that sequence, if not by the initial shot, by one of the punches in the follow up barrage. You mean Cermeno, right?
I ultimately thought it was a close fight. Moreno took the early rounds, Cermeno came back in the middle, and split them going down the stretch. The announcers didn't influence my scoring though, I don't understand Japanese and I can't really understand Spanish.
Cermeno was landing to the body, but Moreno was mixing up his attack well and was even countering Cermeno to the body. I did think that Cermeno's body work started to catch up to Moreno late on, as I feel he finished the stronger and put Moreno on the defensive a lot. Moreno's ****ed up shoes didn't help either. I do think Moreno will have to nullify Cermeno's body attack even more in the rematch, just about the success he had in the fight is due to it.
I don't remember Moreno being hurt, I thought he was stunned though. I thought he was hurt at one point as he sorta skidded across the ring, but it was an issue with his shoes and the paint.
Think I'm gonna rewatch the first fight now.
You guys know your ****, I'm talking more about the general pop. that usually only remember the last few rounds.Comment

They did the same for the Guzman-Diaz fight. They had around 10+ fights on that card. Yeah, that's when I remember him getting shook up. He seemed to wobble a bit and Cermeno jumped on him. He was probably a little more hurt than I previously thought, now that I think about it.
But Moreno's defensive skills allowed him to weather the storm and Cermeno wasn't able to land a lot cleanly.Comment
