I knew he would say that. I can understand people looking for the fights that make the most money but as a champion you need to prove yourself. Khan is only like 22 or 23 and he has years and years ahead of him. Maidana is his manditory and when a guy is your manditory and you refuse to fight him...I think you should be stripped. I'm not saying this because I dislike Khan, I feel this way about all fighters.
Khan shouldnt be worried about making money now. Like I said before he has his whole career ahead of him and has probly made quite alot of money as it is. I just think he needs to prove himself at 140 instead of letting Freddie Roach cherry pick all of his opponents for him.
There are loads of great fighters who had to fight tough guys to get to the top. When Ricardo "Finito" Lopez was WBC Minimumweight champion he defended his title against plenty of manditory challengers and went to the likes of Japan, South Korea, Thailand and the U.S.A to do it. He fought alot of tough guys who werent that popular but as time went on he became more and more popular. That's what you call a real champion. Amir Khan doesnt even have the balls to fight his manditory challenger, nevermind go and fight in his opponent's home country.
Khan needs to prove himself like a real champion and stop picking and choosing his opponents for me to respect him. He's a champion at 140 with only one good name on his resume at the weight class. He needs to start fighting deserving challengers like Marcos Maidana, Victor Ortiz, Zab Judah and even Joan Guzman. Otherwise I will look at him as a paper champion and an embarassment to the U.K.Last edited by JK1700; 08-20-2010, 04:48 PM.
