Who is the next superstar?

The light welterweight division is pretty hot at the moment? A Alexander/Khan rivalry could be pretty possible some time in the future....plus 5 years is a fairly long time in boxing, who knows who could be be in the scene at that time.I don't think there are enough credible lightweights in the world to keep this guy fighting.
I bet even if he goes WW, he'll be fighting fringe contenders, blown up lightweights, and non punchers.
The kid has sick hand speed, good accuracy, and all the makings of a great fighter.......except a chin. His mandible is held together with chewing gum.
Even if he lost to one of the elite light welters Id be willing to bet that he'd put on a good enough to performance to be a big name. Plus Id be willing to bet that his punch resistance has gone up a bit since he moved to light welter, still chinny but that extra weight might help.
To be honest I really thought Daniel Jacobs was going to be the next big thing before last saturday.Comment

Alexander, and farther in the future, Jose Benavidez.Last edited by The Future; 08-06-2010, 05:43 PM.Comment

Not true. Lots of people in Britain can't stand the arrogant, mouthy twat.I agree with you here man, the guy has a massive following already at a young age, hes just breaking into the USA scene and he has an exciting style, plus the question mark over his chin means people will always be interested in watching him fight.
Id say in 5 years time or so Khan will be a massive name in boxing.Comment

Well there will always be haters, I think as time has gone on hes become more accepted, I remember in the ITV fights in the early days Khan would get a lot of boos, the whole arena would be pretty much booing! But in his most recent fights there doesnt seem to be anywhere near the amount of booing that used to go on.Comment

I've asked this before, but nobody came up with a definitive answer.
There are plenty of young/upcoming fighters who are set to become superstars talent-wise, but right now I genuinely do not see anyone who has the personality and "WOW!" factor to become a global mega-ultra-star like Mayweather or Pacquiao.
I'm talking 'cash cow' here, the likes of whom will bring in millions upon millions of PPV and tickets sales. There's absolutely nobody who's even remotely looking like that. I don't see it in Khan, Bradley, Dawson, Alexander, Alvarez, Ortiz, Lopez or anyone.Comment

A lot of people have been hyping Alvarez as the next cash cow, but why? What's so engaging about a weird-looking ginger kid (who's twin brother is obviously Billy Joe Saunders) who struggled briefly against Jose Miguel Cotto?
If I remember right, he doesn't even speak English in interviews. That ain't no cash cow.Comment

I think it'll be the Bradley-Alexander winner, but I think someone will take their spot. Let's face it, they're good but limited. A 140lb Floyd would humiliate them both. Can you honestly see any of them beating a Miguel Cotto or an Antonio Margarito, even once they reach their best? Margarito would have a field day with Devon Alexander. He'd either force him on the backfoot for 12 rounds or punish him when he comes in for too long. And a guy like Miguel Cotto would knock Bradley out without a doubt.
Guys like Jose Benavidez have the skills to beat all of these top 140lb fighters. I'd also like to see more from Gomez and Vargas because they have potential. I like what Roger Mayweather has done so far with Vargas.Comment
