Comments Thread For: Manny Quezada Finally Gets The Big Break He Wanted

By Thomas Gerbasi - Welcome to the world of boxing, circa 2010. It’s a world where a heavyweight like Manny Quezada can do all that’s asked of him for much of his career since turning pro in 2001, bounce back from some up and down early years to put together an 18 fight, nearly five year winning streak, yet get nothing resembling a “big” fight.

But in 2010, his streak gets broken by a split decision loss to journeyman Jason Gavern, and voila, the biggest fight of his career against top contender and former title challenger Chris Arreola materializes.

    Huh?

“I don’t understand how that works out,” laughed Quezada. “I win 18 in a row and I don’t get any big fights. Then I lose one and I get a big fight; how does that work? I don’t understand. That’s totally crazy to me.”

That’s boxing. And while those of us who have been around the game for a minute or two recognize that this, unfortunately, is the way things have been going in the sport for years, for fighters like the 32-year old Quezada, the frustration level has got to be more than most of us would ever be able to bear, especially when he watches some of his peers basically fall out of bed and into one title shot or another. im interested to see this fight.at least he didnt make excuses for the gavern loss.he came straight about looking past him & may have lacked in preparation...its a good step admitting it instead of making excuses like so many do

I think Arreola wins but Jason Gavern is not bad, so don't judge Quezada on that alone. I was surprised that Banks didn't steamroll Gavern on the Vit-Sosnowski undercard.

Would be interesting. I am rooting for Arreola in this one because I think he is more of a danger to Wlad, I think if Quezada challenged Wlad it would be a foregone conclusion as two who would win.

        Because people see youre beatable.

It's why Travis Walker has got 4 title shots in a year and a half.

Youre a fighter with a good record who's not going to win. Thats what promoters look for in a challenger.

I'm looking forward to watching this fight. I haven't seen much of Quezada but he's a got a decent record and he's got a good attitude and will be motivated to win the biggest fight of his career. As for Chris Arreola, he's never in a boring fight and will be looking to bounce back from his latest loss...

            Yea, But.

I too am a Arreola fan, but this is another typical Arreola fight, a guy who he knows he can beat and look good against. Quezada is no slouch, nothing against him, and can pull the upset, but this fight looks to be set up so Arreola can do his thing. Which I love to watch, yes, but plan on being dissapointed if Arreola gets another shot against elite opposition, I KNOW deep down Arreola can do it, but doesn't have the mentality to, I think its too late at this point for him, it sucks.

Who wants to bet Arreola comes in north of 250?

I don't think anyone wants to take that bet, I know that he will come in at close to 260 if not higher. He needs to fire Ramirez and hire someone who will push him. Besides, Ramirez is a little fatso himself, how can be giving training tips when he is obese himself? Kettle, meet pot.

without a doubt he needs a new trainer but what good trainer wants to train a slacker? its not easy but someone like buddy mcgirt or jesse reid might be a good guy to hire
