"Nobody cares about Hopkins/Taylor!"

On PTI, Jay Mariotti basically said that nobody cares about this fight and that he hasn't heard ANYONE talking about it. Wilbon said, "cmon this was a big prizefight" and Mariotti just shrugged it off.

Just goes to show how much of a cult sport that boxing has become. That and the fact that Mariotti is a dumb ass because about 90% of the threads on the best boxing site on the net have been dedicated to Hops/Taylor controversy and outcome.

Its true tho, boxing fans have become something esle, that is why without stars, the sport crumbles.

I'm starting to get seriously concerned about the state of boxing. These $40 PPV's aren't helping. Hell, out of all my friends(besdies the ones at my gym), not ONE of them knew who Jermain was, and very few even knew who Hopkins was!

I couldn't believe it.

I haven't seen it yet...waiting for the replay on HBO sat night sadly. I just thought it was funny that boxing gets no love in the public eye anymore when it used to be one of the primary sports along with baseball.

Hopkins is not a prize fighter. He is a boring fighter. He kind of reminds me of Golota. The only good fights that Golota ever had was against brawlers like Lewis and Brewster, and he lost them both.

Thats because the heavyweight division is dead. No one wants to see a 40 year old boring fighter fight a young fighter. Why would you pay money for that? Everyone wants to see prime for prime. HBO knows this, I don't know why they are wasting there time. Whats next after Hopkins retires. Taylor vs Winky? They might as well get beds out instead of seats.

I read that thanks to blockbuster movies like "Million Dollar Baby" and "Cinderella Man" that interest among the 'casual' fan was on the rise..hang in there boys, we aint done yet!
