Pirog-Jacobs was a prime example of whats wrong with boxing today

Rarely in boxing do you see that type of upset anymore, the last upset like that I can recall were the guy who won was expected to lose was B-Hop-Pavlik and Flash-Darchinyan.

There need to be more matchups like this, I miss the old days of seeing KO's in semi-big fights, too many 12 rounders that are boring a shell to watch.

Promoters more than boxers have ruined our sport and I'll be glad when people like Arum and Golden Boy are put on the back burner (Won't happen anytime soon).

We all talk **** about Don King, but he stacked cards and made good fights. Nowadays, we're lucky to see good fights on a regular basis.

Even with Jacobs-Pirog, they thought Pirog was an easy route to a title.. If they knew he had a missile in his right hand like that, they never would've fought.

I call on all boxing fans to encourage the "Pirog Boxing Age" where we see more upsets, more KO's and new titleholders from all different countries.

    Williams will punish Pirog.

Jacobs promoters never thought this fight was an "easy" road to a title.

It was a highly risky fight and they knew it.

    Jacobs is inexperienced and overrated.

Pirog is a joke. He's 30 years old and the highlight of his career is fighting a D-Class fighter for a vacant alphabet belt.

    Williams KO 1 Pirog

Agreed with TS. To use another example, in one sense I'm actually happy that Ortiz lost to Maidana in such a shocking fashion - he was expected to do big things and roll past some no-namer, but instead got stopped in his tracks and has since been forced to the back of the line.

IMO it's good when the latter happens, because people can get behind a freshly lost fighter for different reasons than just bandwagoning them, and then support them during their next rise to the top. There's a certain satisfaction behind it.

          I disagree 110%.

Anyone who followed Pirog and not just who GBP tells us to follow shuldve known Pirog would win the fight.

He had the style match up in his favor. It was two prospects going at it. One had to lose.

Pirog vs. Jacobs is whats RIGHT about the sport. nO that bull**** Arum is pulling with Lopez and Gamboa and not what Bradley tried to pull with Alexander.

Yeah, I failed hard at the title or people didn't understand it right.

I meant to say everything great about Pirogs-Jacobs is whats wrong with boxing, top fighters avoiding each other.

Burner: I know a few scouts from Golden Boy and they have said the same thing to me, that Jacobs getting a strap increases his star power and Pirogs was the easiest option to get a belt in their mind. They thought Jacobs would win a comfortable 12 round fight, if not a late stoppage.

I wonder if Golden Boy did their homework right when they made this fight, do you think it was a gamble to see if Jacobs was the real deal? I mean I like the kid but he was not a world beater, plus he was untested. Maybe GB thought they had done enough for Jacobs aleady and their investment wasn't paying back so they fed him to a hungry lion like Pirog? From the moment this fight was announced everyone knew including me that Jacobs was in for a rude awakening and it proved to be true.

They shouldve went after Sylvester or Sturm. More so Slyvester.
