Man I don't think so. People don't realize how much time a fighter need before they can compete on an elite level. Kirkland needs at least a year at minimum before he gets a big fight.

Guys like Mayweather, Leonard and others look good in comeback fights because they never really retired and was training etc...just didn't have fights. Kirkland has been away from the sport all together and at best was doing petty **** like push-ups and sit ups to stay active.

great news. I like the idea of keeping him very active right off the bat.

He should fight a bum in Nov and a bum in Dec. Then step it up a little bit in Jan/Feb, another littlestep up Mar/April, then Angulo or whoever after that.

Kirkland's a ****ing beast, he doesn't need to tuneup against bums. Give him some strong chinned journeymen and he will walk through em.

By this time next year, he will be treating Angulo as if he were a tuneup.

And yes, Kirkland will be able to beat the elite in the division (I'm only considering Martinez and Williams as elite at 154, though Cotto and Mosley mightbe able to make the cut if they can prove it).

Jail isn't good for anything, especially a world class boxer. It messes with the body and the mind. You don't train right, you don't eat right, you sure don't sleep right. James needs a tuneup just to see where he's at, at least something to knock the rust off, then, if everthing is ok, go to war.

I find it funny anyone thinks he will be fighting at 154 before next year. Notice how Dunkin sad "Any weight he fights at...." HE'S OVERWEIGHT.

He has a lot of talent and is definitely an exciting fighter to watch, but he has to stay out of trouble if he is going to be taken seriously.

Kirkland should be thrown in with an elite fighter, and he shouldn't get any free passes from HBO just because he got out of jail. Let's see him fight Dzinziruk or Angulo. I'm tired of Golden Boy's fighters getting preferential treatment like Jacobs did. I'm saying this as someone who likes Kirkland as a fighter.

Basically what I'm saying is the dude shouldn't be rewarded with bum fights on HBO just because he got thrown in jail while the rest of the division puts in work. HBO has too little of a budget to be wasting it. Kirkland is exciting and everything. But HBO is should treat every fighter the exact same way and they don't because it looks like they are letting Cotto fight Chavez Jr. and Foreman and forcing Paul Williams to fight Dzinziruk or Martinez.

I'd prefer to see Kirkland get the Paul Williams treatment as well.
