Ok, yeah. Got it. There's nothing shady going on.

In a fascinating interview with his strength and condition coach Alex Ariza in the Telegraph, the expert trainer shed some light on exactly how fast the ‘Pac Man’ burns through calories with his intense workouts:
“Manny was 151 lbs at four and a half weeks out, we keep him on a 7000 calories a day diet, and once we get to Dallas, I just have to take a few things away from the diet. We have to keep his intake up. He has to have a protein shake before going to bed, he has one at 3am, and another one first thing in the morning. He has up to six meals a day and six protein shakes a day when in training for a fight. We have to keep weight on him, as he trains so hard. We can’t have his body dropping calories.”
While waking up at 3am to down a protein shake can’t be much fun, Pacquiao has a serious luxury compared to other fighters who must do the exact opposite. His next opponent Joshua Clottey is a giant welter weight who most likely walks around over 170lbs and could easily fight in the 154lb division. Clottey has never had problems making weight, but there is no doubt that the reduction in calories the week of the fight won’t be a serious pain for the Ghanaian boxer.
