Twilight Of A God: JOEL CASAMAYOR

I just want to extend a heartfelt "THANK YOU" to one of my favourite fighters of all time, Joel Casamayor.

Tremendous career, great wins, close losses, extremely big heart and high skill level.

    Love ya, man.

Thanks, primo. My happiest moment of the past few years is my favourite fighter knocking out my least favourite fighter.

I don't think the new fans realize how good he once was.

He use to be one of the best in boxing. As far as skills go and ring generalship he use to completely leave his opponents clueless.

Casamyor is one of the smartest boxers I've ever seen. He's also MAD old, I don't think anyone believe's his age listed is his actual age. Most believe he's much older.

He was a great great fighter, I hope he decides to become a trainer.

Casamayor had one of the strangest careers I can remember. He gave Oscar a run for his money when it came to strange decisions going the wrong way:

I haven't seen Corrales II, but I have heard some people score it for Casita.
I've also heard people score the third Corrales fight for Corrales, I don't see it though.
The Castillo fight was scored the wrong way in my opinion.
The Freitas fight was extremely clearly scored the wrong way.
            The Campbell result was controversial.
The Kid Diamond draw was seen as a win for Diamond by most.
Santa Cruz... need I say more?

He also had a tendency to fight down to the level of opposition he was facing:

What was he doing losing to Campbell, Kid Diamond and Santa Cruz while he could completely blunt the offense of Castillo, Freitas and Corrales when he was on?

A very strange fighter, but one I was definitely a fan of. You had a great career El Cepillo.

I couldn't believe Guerrero let him go the limit, let alone got dropped by him. I was happy to see that though because I was expecting the old man to get blitzed quick. But he lost with dignity last night. He might still get fights now because of his name but he's too far gone to win any of them. I hope last night is the end for him. Casamayor was great to watch when he was at his best.

I had him beating Corrales in the rematch, clearly beating Freitas and JLC. I also had him beating Kid Diamond, the commentators were on Diamond's **** man. I agree he clearly lost to Cruz, not to make an excuse but I don't even think he trained for that. The Campbell fight could have gone either way.

Yep! Definitely. For a guy a lot of people call boring, he created some amazing fights and gave us some of the best wars at 130/135 over the last decade.

Was a great fighter and warrior. Much respect to him and his amazing career.

Would have been great to see him leave on a winning note over Gueerro but it was not to be.
