Yeah, let me ask the TS a question. If he happened to see a low-level clubfight between two overweight, unskilled, shot-to-shaggery heavyweights which consisted of little more than endless clinching, wild sloppy haymakers and one fighter quitting on his stool after three rounds because he felt a bit tired and his nose hurt... if he witnessed said fight in the knowledge that both fighters were sanctioned professional boxers, would he say like the rest of us non-boxing fans, "This is terrible!! Give me my money back!!" or would he, like the real boxing fan he is, stand up politely clapping and remark, "I say chaps, jolly good show. What a smashing display of pugilistic fisticuffs, what what?" and then proceed to ram his fist up his rectum whilst crossing his eyes and making donkey noises?

If a fight is boring, 75% of the time it's a bad style match-up.

I don't think there is one confident, well-schooled fighter out there who would look boring against any opponent, any night out. Conservative fighters look like knockout artists against scrubs sometimes, and guys who are considered good punchers often accomplish little against against opponent who's style they can't adjust to.

When a particular fighter seems to be in boring fights a lot, it's usually because their skill set is amatuerish and/or they lack confidence.

I think I see where you are going with this but think you just might not have phrased it correctly.

If you are referring to the posters who dont appreciate watching defensive based fighters such Bhop, Mayweather, Whitaker etc as not true boxing fans by hating on them just because they cant appreciate the artform that is defense then i understand and agree.

BUT if you are saying that every single boxing match is exciting then you are delusional. I am a massive fan of BHOP and love his craft but the second BHOPvRJJ fight was not thrilling. Also you can be a fan of a sport and find certain matchups boring. I am also a massive soccer/football fan but you get some very boring games.

Either way he meant it, he's wrong. What the hell gives him the right to define what a "true" boxing fan is? Some people only like watching certain fighters, nothing wrong with that. You can still be a boxing fan. If you prefer Mike Tyson style knockouts, that's absolutely fine. If you prefer Mayweather style defensive fighting, great. But just because you are a snob about defensive perfection doesn't make you superior to any other person who watches.

Can a boxing match be boring? Of course. Every sport has its dull moments. However what most people call boring, in the context of what boxing actually is, isn't really boring. It's a technical boxing match. Personally, I prefer the technical match ups to the brawls, but both have their places.

But what I fail to understand is how boxing fans can find what fighters like Mayweather and Chad Dawson do boring? What those men do in the ring is nothing short or amazing. Truly beautiful.

Also, I must ask those who are all about the "brawls" a question. Some of you are under the impression that boxers are supposed to fight to please you, and so I must ask; Do you believe Ali would trade some of those "exciting" moments in his career for the return of his health? To be given back the ability to hold his children and grand children or form coherent sentences? What about Joe Frazier or Tommy Hearns? Evander Holyfield or Rid**** Bowe? Meldrick Taylor, Donald Curry or Bert Cooper? Perhaps a few of them could have retained the futility of their minds if only their fights were a little more "boring".

That doesn't matter, they did it of their own free will. No one ever said it was fair.
