  • [QUOTE=Lorily;8945884]I'm not one to generally get involved in who paid what to who, but since you are so adamant in defending FMJ at every single juncture answer me this... If the conditions of his BUSINESS rental office were soooo poor, why would they stay in it for over 5 months?!? This doesn't make any sense what-so-ever.

I agree, if the offices were not up to scratch it would have been dealt with straight away.

I don't know what Pacquiao's is so I'm not gonna pretend like I do. But it must be horrible. As far as the high rollers are concerned. You mentioned the asians coming in lol last time I checked Manny was asian. That's called a no brainer. Manny brought in 50,000 to cowboys stadium but how did the gate do? People tend to not bring that up. Fact is Manny can't charge that much for tickets because despite the fact that people go on and on about how crowd pleasing his style is. People don't pay top dollar to see him. Numbers don't lie. But even tho Floyd is sooo boring people pay top dollar to see him. So it is what it is.
its funny how you get defensive, EVERYBODY praises floyds technique. no brainer. but history shows that technicians dont get love the way fighters do. can you accept that???? was pernell a cash cow??? you ask about why does floyd bring people??? simple answer: floyds trash talk & strong b-side.... period. its sad that floyd doesnt get the respect he deserves, but that comes with the territory of playing the villain. we ALL know floyd is acting. he caters to the urban crowd that eat up flaunting cash & ***elry.... it was a strategic plan him and ellerbe executed to perfection. thats on record. its easy for that crowd to chant "undefeated" and feel like they are part of something special. they love winners. especially if one were a betting man. floyd brings them money. but for boxing fans, although we recognize his talent, he leaves plenty to be desired. i, personally, would never even consider him close to pernell, hagler, hearns, etc.... but floyd is one of the best boxers of his era.

regarding manny's punchstats, it doesnt really matter when youre knocking dudes out... do you think the boxing public nit-picked at tysons, haglers, fraziers, & foremans punchstats???? LOL. you gotta be kidding me bro. punchstats are technical boxer fans' way to justify their fighters worth. yes, numbers dont lie, but there are PLENTY of intangibles that make great fighters.

as for me, win or lose, i support fighters who go for the best fight...
BOTH floyd and pac are failing miserably at that.

I will agree with you. Fans like different things. Some fans like the knockouts. Some fans like the technical stuff. But still the sport is called BOXING. So fans have to ask themselves what is boxing? And to me what Floyd does in the ring is Box. But it all goes back down to what certain fans like to see. But you got no argument from me. I agree.

floyd DEFINITELY outsold pac in previous bouts (ive already stated my opinion on that)... but do you think floyd vs clottey at MGM would do good? whats the selling angle on that???? how will he sell a technical fight against a no-name defensive fighter in MGM? just curious... put your angle on it. i dont think even schaeffer could sell that. the boxing public would view that as a COMPLETE mismatch... and BOTH fighters' track record show it wouldnt be an exciting fight.... there is ABSOLUTELY nothing compelling about that match-up.... if floyd were to STILL outsell pac, it would be SOLELY based on his hype & 24/7... which again, is a reflection of how great floyd is at selling a fight. but IMO, i dont think the fans would be fooled into buying that one.

Im the first to admit floyd's numbers are better than manny but not for the reasons floyd fanatics tend to throw around! Second, pac vs the mexican trio didn't break records but their numbers never disappointed either and their fights made a lot of noise where it counted! To me, a fighter that sells big numbers due to his ring performance without the spitting, cursing and the buffoonery before a fight is what impresses me...
Much credit to floyd's skills, talent, and his capability of making a buck as a salesman but that's where it stops with me!
                great post.

Your very argument proves who the better fighter is does it not? The fact that Floyd probably wouldn't be able to pull it off proves that people wanna see him in a real fight. And they know Clottey wouldn't get the job done. But the fact that Pac was able to sell kinda proves that people that it was a challenge for Pac but a complete mismatch for Floyd. Do you agree? And don't forget the fact that it was at Dallas Cowboys Stadium. I'm a huge football fan and if I coulda got in the Cowboys Stadium for $20 or $30 I'm going. I don't care who's fighting. So we can't ignore that. Was most of it Pac? Absolutely but we can't ignore everything else. The fact that Clottey was a lot bigger than Pac was intriguing for people. So you have to look at a lot of things. But after Clottey's performance against Pac there is no way Floyd would outsell Pac. I WOULDN'T EVEN BUY IT. The only way Floyd woulda outsold Pac in that fight is if Clottey would of beaten Pac. Otherwise there is just no interest from the fans for that fight.
