Martinez was the WBC champion and recognized as either the best or number 2 in that division. That's why it matters. Do you really think Pacquiao (or Mayweather ) would fight someone like Martinez?

Come now it's like your first day watching boxing. You act like these kind of concessions havent been made in the past for fighters who were solid champions in lower weight classes. You act like everyone who moves up in weight has to start all over again from the bottom of the rankings which isn't the case whatsoever here in reality. Sugar Ray Leonard also won his last title, at LHW, at a catchweight of 167 lbs over Donny Lalonde. I don't see people nowadays taking anything away from Leonard, I don't see an asterisk next to his accomplishments...

If Ray Leonard can force a 175lb'er to go 8 lbs below the limit then it's really not a big deal for Pac to force Margarito down 4 lbs when he can make the weight easily anyhow.
