Comments Thread For: Blame Flung Over Curtis Stevens-Donovan George Fallout
Andre Rozier openly considers Star Boxing CEO Joe DeGuardia to be a "good friend" away from the ring. As far as his opinion of him as a promoter is considered, Rozier says he is no fan.
Why wouldn't Stevens fight George? Great fight to bounce back after Brinkley disaster. and if he wasn't training as Rozier states then how could he fight a week later? Sounds like a diservice to his fighter to me.
Doesn't really make sense to say Stevens wasn't training and then saying he scheduled a fight for Stevens a week later.
Anyways, Rodriguez-Theophane is a more interesting fight than the main event IMO.
Because the show a week later is just a club show. Big difference between fighting just anyone on your own advisor's show and training for an ESPN2 main event in which you're the B-Side.
Agree with those who like D-Rod/Theopaene anyway. I never liked Curtis Stevens, though not as much disdain as the pederast he declined to fight this weekend. DGeorge, because he's a piece of garbage and doesn't deserve to be called Donovan.

I believe that fighters should train just as hard for club shows and that the trainer should be responsible for pushing the fighter to the limit in training. I don't think it's a really good sign to say that Stevens wasn't really training for the fight.

I agree, but it is what it is. It's easier to say, "Yeah I'll start training tomorrow and fight next month" when there's little to no threat in the other corner, than to accept a meaningful fight on short notice when you've yet to plan camp.
I'm a firm believer in "stay ready so you don't have to get ready," but such is the state of the game today. On the upside, Stevens is now without a fight at all and forced to sit on the Brinkley loss a litle while longer.
