Also if they did fight, Mayweather would easily beat Cotto
My exact thought since page one.

    People are idiots.

I also agree with the fight outcome.

    • Mosley is old!!!!!!!

MOSLEY is OLD guys. That had a lot to do with what he couldn't do. He showed all the signs of an aging fighter that night. He was tired early, second guessing himself, a bit slow. So, let's give MAYWEATHER credit for taking the two big shots in round two, but that's it. He beat up an old man who can no longer fight on this level. You agree? Lucky for MOSLEY he was fighting a guy who doesn't have too much pop at welterweight. Had it been MANNY, BERTO, WILLIAMS, they most likely would have finished him off. He was ready to go in there. I like MOSLEY, but he's finished. A primed MOSLEY would have been a different story I think. It would have been much, much closer. As for BERTO/COTTO. I think COTTO wins but he's getting pushed to the limit. BERTO is a BEAST! Has excellent hand-speed, good stamina, and the will to win. He's very tough in the ring and he would give COTTO some problems. COTTO wins a decision I think. MAYWEATHER/COTTO would be equally dramtic. What a FALL CLASSIC it would be. We waited a long time but I think it serves COTTO more so than MAYWEATHER. MAYWEATHER is beatable now and COTTO has strengths where MAY flaws are. GREAT LEFT JAB and vicious body puncher. With STEWERT in his corner, it's a fight worth happening.

      • MAYWEATHER LIKELY TO FIGHT COTTO AT 154

If Mayweather fights Cotto, it's because he's trying to keep some sort of upper hand or something to the negotiations table if another round of negotiations take place with Top Rank.

For boxing's sake, it'll allow for another comparison in both fighter's trajectories (last five opponents).

Mayweather UD over 154 Oscar > Pacquiao TKO8 over 147 Oscar
        Mayweather TKO10 over 147 Hatton < Pacquiao TKO2 over 140 Hatton
Mayweather UD over 144 Marquez< Pacquiao TKO12 over 145 Cotto
Mayweather UD over Mosley> Pacquiao UD over Clottey

I think they're even in terms of their last opponents and they've taken on terrific fights. Obviously, when you compare their opponents and the results they've produced it's equally impressive. Pacquiao PROBABLY slightly more impressive and sticks out in the mind more but they're the same.

Pacquiao takes on Margarito in a fight people will buy (regardless of their hate for Margarito, they'll watch to see him get beat up). Pacquiao will look impressive, Bob will take to it as "Pacquiao brings in a lot of money, we want a better split" and Mayweather will take Cotto (in a fight that will bring in money because of the PR fan base regardless whether they think Cotto will win or not). Mayweather beats him, brings money in a big PPV match, and then it's back to square one for negotiations...

I don't see how Bob will turn the match with Cotto/Mayweather down...he knows that's going to bring in a lot of money (because of Puerto Rico). The only thing I'm trying to figure out is if these fights are going to be at 154 or 147. If Pacquiao takes on Margarito at 154 (which I doubt), and Pacquiao looks impressive (but slightly worse), expect Mayweather to fight Cotto at 154, shut him out and then ask Pacquiao to take Mayweather on at 154. The **** will hit the fan when this happens at the negotiations table.

        THE ANGLES-BUSINESS SENSE

Consider the mega-fight is derailed because one of the opponents spoil it. Cotto beats Mayweather at 154 (which I doubt), it sets up a 154 fight with either Pacquiao or Margarito (the only opponents to give Cotto a loss). People will eat that up with their newfound faith in Cotto after beating Mayweather. But again, that's a huge (HUGE) if. Mayweather and Cotto makes sense business-wise for Arum and Mayweather. The only thing that blow the whole thing to oblivion is if Margarito beats Pacquiao and Mayweather beats Cotto. Margarito and Mayweather doesn't exactly scream, "We've gotta' see that!" no matter how impressive Margarito looks against Pacquiao if he beats him (that's a huge IF). So, what we have here is sort of a final four similar to what we had at the end of 2007 between Hatton/Mayweather/Mosley/Cotto:

        Mayweather vs. Pacquiao (love it!)

Pacquiao vs. Cotto 154 (interesting considering at this point Cotto has beaten Mayweather

Cotto vs. Margarito 154 (you just know there'd be tension in this fight)

Mayweather vs. Margarito 154 (eeehh...if Margarito beats Pacquiao, it'll be by smothering him. He wouldn't be able to do that against Mayweather. This fight would suck.)

That's my mega-post of the day! I'm out! Green K if you like!

        • Nothing is easy........

Hey man. At this level, nothing is easy. He wouldn't easliy beat COTTO. COTTO strengths are MAYWEATHER'S weaknesses. MONEY gives you his body because he doesn't have the best legs. He also is succeptable to a good jab. COTTO has a great JAB. He has a high punch output. MAY throws 40-45 punches a round. COTTO would make him think and fight. He might win a decision, but it wouldn't be EASY.

People can't see behind all the smack and talk that Floyd provides the television viewers and casual fight fans, the man has a business issue if is about their respective promotional companies or a fight is still good news for the world of boxing, If these two fight at 154 and Floyd wins it gives him another tool to negotiate the terms of the fight with Pac in 2011, I don't think Arum will allow it .

            • Mayweather vs Cotto is a huge event in my eyes.
              1.4 million PPV or better.
Pacquaio vs Margarito is gonna do 500,000 PPV which is still pretty good

              • ...Cotto is very susceptible to power punches. He just can't go in there and have people expect him to give Mayweather a tough fight. He's got a nice jab and all...but...I dunno. At best Cotto wins 4 rounds and not all of them convincingly.

I'd be willing to bet all my points on Mayweather, and I love Cotto as a fighter. But if he gets in there with someone so precise and so evasive, he's going to pay for it.

COTTO has a great JAB mayweather counters his jab all day.
He has a high punch output. again, mayweather counters all of cotto's sloppy punches.

Definitely agree with your p4p list. But because Ali is my hero, and I've never seen Sugar Ray fight, I would switch Ali and Robinson, even though Ali patterned himself after Sugar Ray.

                      ???

if may-pac cant/wont happen, why wouldnt arum want that paycheck between cotto and may? arum's ultimate interest lies in money, not the fighters. arum dont give a *** about manny, he cares for the paycheck that manny produces. cotto is a pretty decent draw, and would produce a pretty good paycheck, i think arum would choose that over nothing. i forget the rest of the story, but your mother's a whore.
