If PWill continues in this road of always chasing after very unlikely high-profile fights, he will end up fighting no one.

And he will have only himself to blame.

I know, he is too much risk/low reward for Pacquiao or Mayweather to fight.

          After that, yeah...do something else.

For Martinez, did you see Williams last fight?
He was "off" in that last fight for one reason or another and that may have been due to his fight with Martinez. So he is going to have to figure out where he stands at the moment with wear and tear and fatigue.
I don't know if he was off against Cintron so much as he tried to fight the completely wrong fight for the first 3 rounds. Once he settled in to his usual, hard to deal with, mega volume punching in the fourth, Cintron no longer wanted to remain in the same ring with him.

But yeah, Pac and Floyd are obviously much higher reward with similar risk.

What's become clear to me is that Paul Williams has an extremely warped and misguided view of who exactly he is and how he fits in the boxing world. You could see it when he asked for 50-50 against Pavlik. You could see it when he began talking about going back to 147 to fight Floyd and Pac. And you can see it now that he thinks he should get more than 50-50 against Martinez. He thinks he is some kind of superstar, and is acting like one, when in reality the guy is barely a star.
Good post. I'd have to agree that Paul thinks he's better then he really is, which has led to misguidence. Paul hasn't even proven himself to be a superstar yet (not that he is going to be one or anything) but beating Quintana, a debatable win vs Martinez, and a gift win vs Cintron isn't going to cut it for him. He needs to realize he hasn't proved himself enough yet to grant himself a fight vs Pacquiao or Mayweather.

Yup, the sad thing is Paul doesn't realize himself that trying to fight Pacquiao & Mayweather isn't going to happen at this stage. He should stay at 154 and forget this 147 nonsense.

Exactly. Paul is a BIG risk even though he's not exactly a great boxer

No doubt Paul has potential but waiting to get his big pay day at this stage isn't going to happen. I feel he has plenty more to give to the fans yet, maybe some epic fights waiting for him. He should move on and quit chasing all the time, he needs to discover himself and start beating people up, this is only way he's going to get future big fights as it looks Martinez isn't going to happen for him.

When you look at his resume it's as impressive as there is in boxing right now. Especially when you add all the weight classes and top contenders he fought.

That guy is a true fighter.
panda doesnt hate williams but wtf man he fought everyone???

the top opposition he did fight led to close decisions:
margarito - close fight had it 7-5 williams
martinez - close fight had martinez winning by a point
cintron - close fight for as long as it lasted

paul actually hasnt done anything at 154 yet boxrec rates him #1, he fought verno philips (lol) and cintron. at 160 he fought journeyman andy kolle, winky wright (an old version) and martinez.

ok this starting to sound like a hater's post but it really isnt, its not entirely williams' fault either cuz 2 years ago he really was hungry for the big names.

now hbo is offering him a career high payday to fight martinez, the guy he scouted when he fought pavlik and he refuses to do so. his second best option would be pavlik but thats not happening. 147 is drying up now that even berto is scouting cotto at 154. alvarez is 19 years old and williams has not business fighting this kid. the only legit name williams can fight at 147 is clottey but he wont get him paid.

Williams has a history of ducking rematches with guys that gave him big trouble. He refused to rematch Margarito but then came running back and demanded a rematch with Margarito after he beat Cotto. He demanded and received a rematch with Quintana, but wouldn't return the favor. He refused and apparently continues to refuse to rematch Martinez after a fight that really amounts to a draw. Finally, he won't even rematch Cintron. I mean really, why avoid Cintron?
