It could still happen now in their early 30s but they're obviously both finished against top elite comp.

I think the fight didn't happen because Bob Arum was looking to build Cotto's resume up before putting him in with some one as good as 140 prime Hatton was. Remember Hatton was unbeatable for 4 years down there.

because cotto had trouble making weight and he moved up to welterweight after his fight with malignaggi. then hatton moved up to welterweight and got his ass whopped by collazo. after that fight he got back to jr.welterweight and fought urango and castillo. he KO castillo, had the COJONES to challenge floyd and the rest is history.

Basically because Cotto was killing himself to make weight at 140. Ricky did move up as well but his goal was always to fight Mayweather. If he'd actually been successful against Floyd, I reckon we'd have seen Hatton-Cotto at 147

What a fight this would have been. One of my dream fights.

          Perfect clash of styles.

I would like to have seen that fight a few years ago. I can see Ricky coming out fast and maybe even dropping Cotto, but then Cotto coming on and stopping Ricky late.

                  There's that.

Cotto was not a protected fighter.
