Good thread. I agree with what you said, People are always saying "Why doesnt Floyd fight this guy and that guy" and I think this annoys him also. He cleaned out 130, moved up and beat the best Lightweight of his era and then won titles at 140, 147 and 154 but hardly got any credit for it. You might notice when he was at 130 and 135 he was saying stuff like "I want to fight Prince Naseem or Stevie Johnston or Juan Lazcano" but Arum didnt give him those big fights. He made Floyd fight against guys from Top Rank just to make more money like Victoriano Sosa. And Floyd didnt get the money for those fights, Arum was keeping alot of the money whilst not giving him big fights.

Right now Floyd isnt interested in proving anything to his critics because there is always an excuse and people never give him his due. And that's fine with me, He's still my favorite fighter no matter what. He's already proved himself so he has the right to take the fights that make the most money and then get out of the sport. Some casual fans dont like his attitude but he still deserves alot more respect than he gets from the boxing public and media.

True so floyd went with the money may style and got paid. It seems as if floyd did more than just wrestle for WWE. He seemed to learn something about marketing and promotion.

I think Arum said bad things about Floyd because he anticipated that Mayweather would leave long before he did, They had alot of arguments dating back to his Lightweight days. Long before he left in 2006, I believe. Floyd was always a good draw, I think he learned alot from when he was with Arum because when he left he got much bigger. The key to this was the Mega fight with Oscar De La Hoya, Which would almost certainly not have happened if Floyd didnt leave Top Rank.

Floyd always had a good following but the fight with Oscar took him to the next level, I think he learned alot from Oscar also in terms of how to market and hype the fights along with following Oscar's blueprint of Golden Boy Promotions. Floyd has took over Oscar's role as the cash cow of boxing.

Good point. My personal opinion is Bob Arum is pissed off that an african american, mexican american, and swedish dude have generated so much money so quickly, especially since he is partly responsible for both floyd and ODH's success.

I agree, He's the typical promoter in so many ways. I don't like him but alot of the things he has done, If you think about it you would proberbly do the same thing in his position. When he was promoting Floyd, He said he was one of the greatest ever and now he is with Pacquiao he says simular things. Of course it makes him look bad when he talks bad about his former fighters but he's only promoting the guys who put money in his pocket, nobody else.

Promoters are always going to be angry when their cash cow leaves, And this is why Arum talks bad about Floyd. When he says "He hasnt challenged himself", Nobody really believes it. I mean, He promoted Floyd for about 9 years so if he wasnt challenged then who's fault was it?

Arum is just bitter. But it's understandable, Just to think Floyd said Bob wasnt promoting him right so he left him and proved it by making himself the most popular fighter in boxing. As a promoter that has to hurt because Arum has been promoting fighters his whole life.

I remember reading that Floyd wanted 10 to 15 million to fight ODLH and Arum told him that he'd never get that kind of money. Arum also told Floyd that floyd would never be a cash cow in boxing because of his style of boxing. I think at that point in time, Floyd changed from a humble young man to just wanting to prove Bob Arum wrong while rubbing it in Bobs face. Floyd is my favorite boxer no matter what, but I do see that he feels as though he is bigger boxing. I knew that if Floyd didn't fight Pac, it wasn't due to fear, it was strictly Floyds ego. If everyone remembers back when Floyd and Shane had their first press conference, Floyd told everyone that other fighters had to fight 3 and 4 times a year just to get noticed, but when Floyd Mayweather fights, its like the Super Bowl, it only happens once a year and everybody wants to see it. Floyd is in the drivers seat of boxing right now without a doubt. But one wrong turn can get your ass carjacked...
You mean the floyd who cried when he got humbled, felt insecure so turned into a ****y arrogant arsehole to hide his insecurities. Yeah i remember perfectly well.

You forgot about the immediate re-match and subsequent majority decision to prove who really was the best in that division. Not even Castillo himself could deny it. Neither did he dispute it nor could he.

Exactly. While Bob was building up Oscar's career, Floyd was left to stand in the shadows awaiting his turn to be in the spotlight.

He must've done something right to bust loose from Arum's grip because he's the top draw now and Arum realizes Floyd is a major threat to his fighters.

When did he ever get humbled? I dont seem to ever remember him losing a fight. The last time I checked he was 41-0!

That's exactly what it is. Floyd has always stated how he feels unappreciated by the people in the sport.
