I had a feeling something like this would happen. The people who thought Tua was a serious threat in the division were living in the past. Tua has shown very little in his fights since 2005. The Cameron win looked good, but it wasn't against a top heavyweight. Barrett is the sort of boxer who would have always been a tough fight for Tua. It's just that Barrett appeared to be shot and that Tua would probably stop him.

Tua has looked different ever since his comeback in 2005. He has just never looked as strong or explosive as he did before. Whether it's because he just burnt himself out or because he hasn't been training consistently remains to be seen. Even his cast iron chin appears to eroding just a bit.

i scored it 114-112 barrett.i have watched the fight 3 times now.i added the fight to both career sets i make.i had tua up by a round going into the 12th.i said before that barrett had a great training camp unlike his last 3 fights.the haye fight he was treated poorly & had difficulty adjusting to england(food, jetlag, etc),the solis fight came up on 4 days notice after he was to fight sheldon hinton in my hometown.big difference between hinton & solis.there is no way he trained that hard for hinton so he wasnt properly prepared for solis.ustinov he took it on short notice & lets face it ustinov is massive much like valuev....this was his best camp he said since the mesi fight & it showed.tua is still # 1 ranked in the wbo & certainly wont scare any of the champions now but i refuse to count him out.hes a wounded animal who dodged a bullet.they are the most dangerous when wounded.lets see how he responds after this setback.even at 237 he still looked soft so he has some work to do.it sounds like hes got a stay busy fight vs maddalone coming next & that will be a barnburner because vinny comes straight after you.hell be fairly comfident after viewing the barrett fight.wlad can make a voluntary after sasha(if he wins)but i think he will fight tua in 2011 if he gets past sasha & a haye fight(if haye wins his next fight) cant materialize.tua is the #1 wbo challenger so its going to happen or the champion will be stripped.

Wow, im gutted man, completely unexpected. A few points anyway:

        1. Monte was robbed. 115=112 Tua?? This judge needs to be disciplined. Severely. I had Tua up by 1 point (giving all close rounds to Tua, of course) leading into the 10-7 12th.

        2. Tua was shot by the 6th round. He had Monte rocked at least 4 times but failed to show the killer instinct to finish the job and he let a classy moving boxer take him to the cleaners.

        3. Screw the haters. **** all of you dissing Tua, you dont get a more honest and humble boxer than Tua and to show complete disrespect to him is a pointer to your intelligence.

        4. Its all over now. The best Tua can hope for is a pitiful trilogy match with Rahman *yawns*.

You never know, maybe Tua was just looking past Barett, and this was a kick up the backside that he needed.

dont give up on him just yet imo

I'm kind of glad I didn't watch it.
Nah, you should have watched it -- it was an entertaining fight.

Barrett used the Lennox Lewis formula as the bigger man in the fight: he kept the shorter Tua off him most of the night with a great jab, wore Tua down, and did something even Lennox didn't do: knocked his ass down.

Tua did land some awesome body shots that would have put many fighters on the canvas. Monte fought with heart, courage and pride.

Like many here, I've not always been respectful to Barrett, but I want to thank him for a great fight last night. He made the trip to Atlantic City very worthwhile. Big respect, Monte!

Just watched the fight vid and post fight commentary. It was implied that David might fight tough journeyman Vinny Maddalone in Australia sometime this fall. Contrary to 90% of this forum, I haven't given up on Tua winning some more big fights in his career and landing a title shot. Although he obvioulsy doesn't stand a chance against the K Bros...

I only David returns to the ring before year end. He's been known to take long layoffs. Also, Maddalone is the better fight for Tua. Vinny's a popular club fighter that gives a 100% in every fight and goes for the win..
