Comments Thread For: Dibella: Ishe Smith Ready For The Best at 154-Pounds

Promoter Lou DiBella told BoxingScene.com that Ishe Smith will return to the junior middleweight division, and DiBella plans to put him in position for a major fight. On Friday night at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, Mississippi, Smith (21-5, 9 KOs) dropped a close ten round division to hot middleweight prospect Fernando Guerrero (19-0, 15 KOs). Smith tested Guerrero in every round, and dropped the young middleweight in the eight with a looping right hand. [Click Here To Read More]

Ishe deserves a lot of credit for the way he fought last night; here is a guy who just a year or two ago was constantly criticized for his negative performances in the ring and his "victim" attitude. He may still have a bit of the attitude (deservedly so), but he's really put it all out there in his last two fights by letting his hands go more and giving two younger, bigger prospects all they could handle. He's accepted his opponent role by taking tough fights in order to prove his critics wrong, and despite losing both the Jacobs and Guerrero fights in the eyes of the judges, it's clear he's won over a lot of fight fans and silenced at least some of his critics.

I thought Ishe did enough to get the W last night but to give it to Guerrero is not a robbery, especially given that Ishe easily could have been deducted another point for the low blows. The scorecards were absolutely ridiculous though. Having the same ref and same judges for all the fights on a card can lead to them getting tired or bored and can really compromise the fairness of the fights.

Ishe doesnt want any part of Angulo, no way, bad move. Angulo would crushingly KO Smith between the 8th and 10th rounds.

He said the exact same thing afte Jacobs fight and then he waited 11 months to fight another middleweight prospect.

          Ishe needs better management.

I thought he won last night too.

Ishe's never been hurt or down in a fight. He's got a good beard, good defense, and has shown that he can hang with not only bigger guys but with bigger punchers as well.

Ishe deserves a fight like Angulo and to say he "doesn't want any part of Angulo" is just wrong. He'd take that fight in a heartbeat.

I have no sympathy for Ishe. People forgot how popular he was after the contender and he had lots of opportunities to do something. Instead he put in boring performance after boring performance.

It's hard to look bad in a fight or get really hurt when you don't throw punches and fight defensive.

Give him Collazo or someone on that level ... I don't see the Angulo fight happening, especially with Angulo having just won an Eliminator.

He gave a really good account of himself against Guerrero. All he has to do is train that hard again and he'll give any top Jr MW problems.

close fight, the wide margin scores were sort of ridiculous ,but it is what it is.he left in the judges hands plus he didnt seem to distraught after the fight was over.randy phillips looks to me like he needs to hold a cigarete in one hand and a milwaukee's best in the other when he refs fights. he could have called a LOT of low blows. i wouldn't mind seeing him and shawn porter meeting down the line and see if smith can give porter the same run at 54 like he did with fernando at 60.
