Ali would knock Louis out by no later than Round 8 or so. He did it to Foreman and Foreman was a good bit better than Louis, not to mention bigger.

Idiot. Both Joe Louis and Ali were around 6ft2 and around 205. If Ali's hands were quicker than Louis' then it was a very small margin quicker because Joe had great speed of punches, Joe's punches were so quick that you didn't have a chance to even begin to move away. And Louis' punching accuracy was second to none, it was out of this world. I would bet my life on Louis beating Ali, I'd bet that if Ali won I'll kill myself, that would be the bet. Louis is in a league all by himself, and I'm pretty certain that you idiots haven't even seen the guy fight!

I don't see anybody beating Joe Louis, and Muhammad Ali was anybody.

As somebody on another board said - to suggest that Ali would defeat the Brown Bomber is just wishful thinking and unrealistic, it's fantasy land.

George Foreman's Top 10 Heavyweights Ever:

            1. Joe Louis.
To be honest with you, number two is way off. Joe Louis is in a
            class by himself.
            2. Rocky Marciano.
Just look at Rocky Marciano's record. Nobody beat him. You can't
            take that from him.
            3. Jack Johnson.
A big brave cat, because he'd do whatever he wanted and get out of
            the way.
            4. Muhammad Ali.
Put him down as the GREATEST MAN to ever box, and a hero
bigger than boxing. Once Ali lost his speed, it only showed that
he'd never developed a great defense.
            5. Joe Frazier.
Only because he depended solely on his left hook do I rate Joe
Frazier below Marciano. Marciano could hit with both hands.
            6. Jack Dempsy.
Jack Dempsy's very name means strength and courage. Other than
Joe Louis, there is not a name in boxing or in sports with more
            meaning.
            7. Mike Tyson.
A phenomenon. What Mike Tyson was able to do with his speed of
hand and punching power is as phenomenal as what Muhammad
Ali did when he was Cassius Clay with speed of feet. Tyson
deserves to be in the top ten; this is where I put him, the youngest
man to become Heavyweight Champion of the World.
            8. Sonny Liston.
If Sonny Liston truly had not lost his cool, had not underestimated a
young Cassius Clay; and kept the same mind set that he had as a
contender, history would have been a lot kinder to him. Sonny
Liston could not believe Muhammad Ali was so fast and had so
much courage. It just made him fall apart.
            9. Floyd Patterson.
The First Two-Time Heavyweight Champion of the World.
            10. Evander Holyfield.
For standing up to Mike Tyson

As you see, I didn't make the list...

The first time around, George Foreman was too mean and too crude.

The second time around, too sophisticated and too publicity conscious to
            exploit his power...

            Honorable Mention (Alphabetically ordered)

            Max Baer
            Ezzard Charles
            Jersey Joe Walcott

You're a ****ing idiot if you actually say for a second that Joe Louis was fast. He was slow as ****, you idiot. That's one thing that always amazed me about Louis. He was so slow that I could've dodged his punches, but those guys somehow didn't manage to do so. Seriously, go watch his fights, then go kill yourself. Louis was s-l-o-w.

And I don't give a **** what Foreman says. He grew up watching Louis, of course he thinks he's great. What Louis did was give black people hope back then. Some of my favorite things when watching Joe Louis aren't the Louis fights, but the feeling, the inspiration he gave to so many poor people. To see black people back then actually smiling and partying after Louis won a fight, that was a true thing of beauty.

His punches were so short yet so full, so much shoulder movement yet such lack of range, and so damn firm that it may of appeared to some idiots that they were slow. But every sane person knows that Joe Louis could knock you out before you had a chance to blink. His range of punches were great, his timing was sick, and he was patient and always composed no matter what, and he was very, very smart. The guy had fast punches, dynamite hands, how can you deny this??

As for Foreman growing up watching Louis, WTF is up with that? Joe Louis was long into his reign before George Foreman was even born.

Joe Louis is the most accomplished Heavyweight of all time, 26 title defenses, no one can match that. But I think a young Ali would've beat a prime Louis by UD. Ali & Louis are 2 of the greatest heavyweights of all time, no ifs and but about it. But Sugar Ray Robinson is the greatest boxer of all time, 96 straight win & another 40 straight wins 1 lost in his first 136 fights. He also revolutionized boxing. Ali's idol was Robinson, he tried to be like Robinson. I don't think any Heavyweight would've beaten a young Ali.
