There are a few guys over at ESB, that watched people like SRR and other greats live. I bet it's really interesting to watch the boxing live and then 60 years later, see the stance on those boxers/fights.
I remember seeing a HW P4P list done by someone's Dad. I think his Dad was born in 1896 and died 70 years later? ( cannot remember exactly ). Anyway, he had Jack Dempsey as the best HW and he even had Ali in his top 10, even though it was still early days for Ali.
Someone from the British section also had dinner with Tyson and spent 4 hours talking to him about boxing and said Tyson's knowledge was incredible.Comment

My Dad was born in 1896 and passed in 1978. He followed and attended boxing events all his life. collected boxing films, and saw many of the greats fight in person. I thought it might be interesting to some to see his top 10 heavyweight list, finalized, I believe, around 1976. My dad tended to rank based on who he thought would have beaten whom, as opposed to resume.
1. Jack Dempsey
2. Joe Louis
3. Muhammad Ali
4. Jack Johnson
5. Gene Tunney
6. James J. Jeffries
7. Rocky Marciano
8. Sam Langford
9. George Foreman
T. Sonny Liston
I know he thought a lot of Joe Frazier, and, had he extended his list to 12, I'm sure Frazier would have been included. I know he also saw Larry Holmes fight, and mentioned that he thought he was a real good up and coming heavyweight. He always stuck to his guns on Dempsey. He mentioned once that he suspected that John L. Sullivan was underrated by "modern" boxing fans. An interesting statement, considering Sullivan's rise in all-time rankings in recent years. He knew Nat Fleischer and argued that he thought Jack Dempsey would have knocked out Jack Johnson (Fleischer's number 1)Comment

I haven't seen him for a while, does he post elsewhere?

Yeah... usually if Im at the gym, and at the end of my workout ill go sit in the sauna... and there's always old guys in there 70 - 80 years old... I always strike up a convo just to be nice, and usually end up asking them if they followed boxing and what they know... It's enjoyable to hear what they had to say about boxing 60 years ago.. Who they liked and who was the man to them back then..Comment

Ummm . . . Haye has not exposed the Klitschkos, because he hasn't gotten into the ring with them. He's only exposed himself as a cowardly man. I have to say though that in his position I'd do the same thing. He'll get great paydays for himself against the likes of Harrison and maybe Fury and maybe some other washed up former contenders. He'll get no credibility if he doesn't fight a Klitschko, but he'll make money. It's worked pretty well for Mayweather. Besides, in a year or two, Vitali will be slowing down and should be primed for a loss. He's a smart guy this Haye, he should go into business.Comment
