This kind of sucks because I've been wasting my money. They hav'ent shown a fight in months. I though it was because there just has'nt been much boxing on HBO lately anyway so I toughed it out and figured I would wait. I knew that Bradley vs Abregu was coming up. So i go check my listings and sure enough it is'nt being shown. I only have HBO for the boxing. I've literally never watched anything else on the network. This blows but at least we still have Showtime and they put alot of fights on every week. Now I'll have to resort to downloading HD copies of HBO's fights. At least I save $30 a month.
No more HBO boxing shown in Canada.

Write them a letter to express your distaste that boxing in Canada is not getting good coverage on HBO. -

So I contacted HBO Canada (see below) and they were nice enough to respond back quickly.
In short: HBO Canada will not show the card this weekend
However its not really their fault. Alcine is fighting on the undercard, he is promoted by a Canadian company, which means that this show will be only available on PPV here in Canada. Same thing happens when Bute fights on HBO or even when Canadian fighters fight on ESPN FNF, im too lazy (because I won't buy it) to check but I am assuming that this will be on French language only PPV available to Bell customers. I can't begin to stress how ****** this is, but its standard practice here in Canada. Its not HBO's fault/choice, blame shortsighted Interbox/GYM promoters who are too ****** to realize that nobody outside of Quebec would even consider buying this.
Below is HBO Canada's response
I would like to thank you for your e-mail. Here at HBO Canada, it is
always a pleasure to hear from our subscribers and to address any
questions that you may have.
I contacted our Programming department, who in turn contacted HBO U.S
with your question. Unfortunately we will not be showing the July 17th
event due to the fact that a Canadian fighter is on the undercard. I
assure you that this is not a decision from our end. This issue has
happened in the past, specifically Lucian Bute fights, but this is the
first time an undercard fighter has been the reason that a fight
broadcast is unavailable. I assume the reasoning is that pay-per-view
networks can charge money for the fight in Canada because there will be
interest from Canadian fans.
As a boxing fan myself, I'm also disappointed that the fight will not be
available on HBO Canada. Regardless, I will forward your comments to our
Programming department for review.
Sorry I can't be more helpful, and we apologize for any disappointment.Comment
