Mayweather Jr vs Sugar Shane Mosley?

09.07.05 - By Jim Amato: This bout is actually being discussed and rumor has it that both boxers are interested. I am not sure but I am assuming that the bout will be fought at 147 pounds. A very interesting proposed match up. Floyd is on a roll and Mosley trying to come to terms with his four losses, two each to Vernon Forrest and Winky Wright. Still you must remember that Shane has twice defeated De La Hoya. Floyd is the best young fighter I've seen since a prime Roy Jones Jr. and before that Sugar Ray Leonard himself..

Two things that Shane brings to the table that may trouble Floyd are his tremendous strength and his hand speed, especially in close. Shane is probably pound for pound one of the strongest boxers active today. If they fight at 147, this will be a great advantage for Shane.

If Mosley could bull his way inside, he still has the ability to get off quick combinations to the head and body. Also Shane is a pretty good ****er to the body.

Floyd has a great defense. He is extremely hard to hit solidly and nearly impossible to hit with two power punches in a row. The boxer who has had the most success against Floyd was Jose Luis Castillo in their first fight at 135 pounds. Why ? Pressure, pressure, pressure. If you give Floyd room he'll box your ears off. If Mosley pressures Floyd to ropes, uses his strength and lets his hands go, he has a legitimate chance of winning.

I just wonder if Shane still has enough confidence in his abilities

Last I heard, negotiations went south over money issues. Apparently, Mosley wanted more money that Floyd.

If Mosley wanted more money than Floyd ..he must of really taken a beating from Winky..cause thats ******ed. Anyways..if this match were to happen..Id take Pretty Boy..great defense, and strong accurate punch combos..will do in Mosley.

mosley can be beat with a jab...winky and oscar showed this. box.box.box.floyd's just got to stick to the game plan and not get suckered into a war...if he does...it's lights out pretty boy.

I make em even money. If Floyd could avoid Shanes big shots and keep the fight on the outside he has a good shot at outpointing Shane. However, Shane still has quick hands at 147 and is stronger than anyone Mayweather has faced. I don't think Shane is as done as many are making him appear. He is a great body puncher and could take Mayweathers legs/energy out for the late rounds.

I'd lean towards Shane dropping Mayweather once or twice en route to a MD or UD, because we don't know what Floyd would look like at 147, but it's really a pretty even fight.

I hope this fight would come off, Floyd would really really gain my full respect if he could take down Mosely.

I think Shane would take it. He is as fast, a better body puncher, and hits leauges harder. Not to mention he has a damn Granite chin. I think he would shrugg PBF's punches off with relative ease and pound the body and head.

            Shane UD or late TKO.

I'd love to be able to agree but Shane doesnt seem to have much left. He didnt look great against Estrada, who had already lost to Ishe Smith!! In his hey day then he would have had a better chance, but now i think it is too late for him. Mayweather would win on points quite wide, about 116-112.

Yeah I dont think its going to happen, talks ended last week. Plus Shane is fighting on the Barrera vs Peden undercard in September. But if the fight did happen, I see it being close but Id have to go with Floyd just on youth.

Mosley has slim to no chance against Mayweather. Mosley is one of the most overrated fighters of all time. Mayweather is one of the greatest fighters of all time. Do the math.

Mosely was excellent at lower weights, he just fell in love with his own power and it devoured him at the higher weights. Still, the wins over DLH and Rivera at 147 are nothing to scoff at.
