I think Junior has a lot of things going for him 1. He well have even longer to work on things with Roach. 2. He's coming off a career best win while pavlik is coming off a career wors loss. 3. Jack lowe has proven to be the most useless trainer ever to have a Champion boxer under his belt.
Kelly Pavlik-Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. a possibiilty for Dec. 4th

What would it say about MW boxing for the past several year if Jr fought Pavlik and won though?
I mean he proved himself to be at least mediocre against Duddy ok, but if he beats the former undisputed MW champion it means to me that JT was actually not very good either and the fact that our Champion now though elite is a SWW, this is a huge statement about the void of talent at MW.
Can't wait until some of these prospects are ready.Comment

this fight would be so huge for the both of these fighters but especially for jcc jr since he has much to prove and prove his worth to hang in the ring with the best fighters at 160 and also for the ghost kelly pavlik since he has been getting his ears boxed off from bhop and sergio martinez this fight makes so much sense it almost has to happen!!!Though no contracts have been signed and details still have to be worked out, it appears as though the rumored December 4 fight between former middleweight world champion Kelly Pavlik and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will be going ahead. Joe Scalzo of Vindy.com had the story today, and this quote from Pavlik:
"It’s the only really big fight out there for me. I think it’s a big step toward getting back on the right track."
Pavlik (36-2, 32 KO) lost his middleweight crown in April to Sergio Martinez and had been said to be targeting a move up in weight to 168 pounds. With this fight, he'll be staying at 160 for at least one more bout, and he is right that it's really the only money fight for him out there.
What Pavlik doesn't indicate, since it ain't good hype, is it's also about the easiest money fight he'll ever have in his career. I truly thought highly of the improvements Chavez (41-0-1, 30 KO) showed in his career-best win over John Duddy on June 26, but Duddy is not Pavlik, and though Kelly has his detractors, he has plenty of wins over guys as good as Chavez, and the fights weren't close.
Bob Arum has reportedly given his blessing to the fight, and I don't know, I can't figure that one out. I mean, I don't mind it. I'm no huge Chavez fan, but Top Rank has been exceptionally careful to this point, and he's 24. Even Duddy was a step up, but Pavlik is like jumping five more levels in one fight. Unless Top Rank thinks it's time to cash in on Chavez, I don't see the point in this, unless they think there's simply more money long-term in the older Pavlik, who could use a win over Chavez to springboard into some money fights at 168 with the guys from the Super Six who no longer have tournament obligations.
Honestly, in its own way, I like the fight. There's nothing better for Pavlik to do, and selfishly, I can say it probably bursts whatever bubble Chavez has left among the people who don't care much about what a win means but are simply concerned with whether something was a win, no matter who it's against.

***MODERATOR EDIT: A fight that contracts haven't been signed on and details haven't been worked out isn't a "go". Far from it. I have revised the title accordingly. Thanks.Comment

It's always the same thing with this board full of know nothings. Chavez wins and it voids the other fighter of any talent, and if he loses it just reaffirms the statment that he's talentless and has fought bums. What would it say about MW boxing for the past several year if Jr fought Pavlik and won though?

Seriously it would take an act of God for any of you to give the kid credit.
Before the Duddy bout the Majority of people on this board thought Duddy would win easily. Now that junior won all they can say is Duddy was a bum! Seriously guys stop cherry picking and covering your own errors in judgement with even more ridiculous *** head statements.Comment

Taylor was always a good fighter and pavlik was pretty decent himself. Both these fighters I think obviously aren't as good as they once were. Pavlik has been going downhill since hopkins and taylor downhill since pavlik. That doesn't mean they weren't at one time any good. What would it say about MW boxing for the past several year if Jr fought Pavlik and won though?

There are various and multiple reasons for each guy (taylor stamina problems, being knocked out, pavlik rumors of alcohol, staying in shape, maybe the mental aspect of getting schooled so badly by hopkins, etc.). Not everyones prime lasts that long. Both taylor's and pavliks just lasted a few years and that's it. They are both pretty much done.
If Pavlik loses to chavez it would on one hand show how far pavlik has fallen and regressed as a fighter and on the other hand it would further display chavez as a serious fighter, one that should be respected instead of laughed at.Last edited by ИATAS; 07-14-2010, 03:28 PM.Comment

It's not as if Pavlik was destroyed against Martinez, he won the middle rounds, dropped Martinez and fought hard until the end. Isn't Martinez an elite fighter that took P Will to the brink?
We can't have it both ways, if Jr. beats Pavlik, especially a guys who is naturally bigger and Roach already said he will try and fight at 154 to make Jr. even stronger and then agree to 160.....I think it would be a huge win for Jr.
It would give Jr. a great name in his resume and give Pavlik and opportunity to win on a big stage with a guy who will bring in viewership.Comment
