Here's who I'd say are the 10 best in the sport right now:This is all opinion based and not to be taken seriously. Just something for anyone who's bored. It might stir up some good debates, who knows?. I'll try my best to update this list the best I can. What I want to do is pick apart RING's list with your help. I won't be able to please everyone so I'll just go off of the general consensus of this thread. Here is your list so far:
1. Manny Pacquiao
2. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
3. Juan Manuel Marquez
4. Nonito Donaire
5. Shane Mosley
6. Chad Dawson
7. Paul Williams
8. Sergio Martinez
9. Pongsaklek Wonjongkam
10. Andre Ward
1. Floyd Mayweather Jnr.
2. Manny Pacquiao
3. Paul Williams
4. Sergio Martinez
5. Chad Dawson
6. Fernando Montiel
7. Pongsaklek Wonjongkam
8. Andre Ward
9. Andre Dirrell
10. Timothy Bradley
As you can see a disagree with The Ring on almost everything, so I'll just elaborate on a few of the major points.
- Mayweather above Pacquiao. I felt his victory over previous P4P #3, Shane Mosley, was impressive and dominant enough to warrant this reclamation. "Reclamation" being the key word there, as opposed to say "overthrow" or something more forceful like that. Semantic, yeah, but it's all subjective so fuck it.
- No Marquez. P4P lists should stay au courant and relevent in my view, and it's been over a year since JMM looked like a pound-for-pounder. And his next step is to rematch the guy he already smashed - that will not reinforce his claim by much.
- No Donaire. What the hell has this guy done since flattening Darch to deserve a spot in the top ten, let alone top five!? Note: I haven't seen the recent Marquez fight yet, but even so, the guy's hardly a king maker is he?
- Paul Williams so high + above Sergio. Sergio has proven to be a legit pound-for-pound worthy star recently, and Williams beat him (it was close, but he did win). Nuff said. Who's done anything better than that lately?Comment
